Roadside assistance not always available

This afternoon is was driving on the NY State thruway, traveling around the speed limit. There was road debris dropped from a truck which I could not avoid. Ran over the debris and blew out front right tire. Bent my wheel too-

Called roadside assistance and found out they are not allowed on the NY State thruway. I never knew NY State limits what emergency vehicles can respond on the Thruway.

It's pretty common. Toll roads are considered private roads and those roads have exclusive contracts with tow companies who are allowed to tow on those roads. It's like that in many other states.

Ugh, I better check that out. A majority of my travel for the next year or two with work has me traveling the Massachusetts Turnpike. Granted it's only 30 miles out and 30 miles back but who knows. Better to be safe than sorry.

Call M-B USA and ask them.

Yes, keep us updated.
Even in the times when MB roadside assistance WAS free, I found it very little usable.
The guy driving ML did not even carry scanner with him.
He could give you a jump, replace the battery, install YOUR spare wheel and that about it.
In any other case, they would call independent tow truck.
20 years ago, when I was picking up new MB, the salesman told me that his dealership was sending supervisors to disabled cars with intention to put it back on the road. But now it is only legend.

It's probably still the same. Last time I had a breakdown on the pike they told me the same thing when I called AAA. I think they might reimburse for towing though, but that's just AAA, not sure about MB.

If you have any break down, it's best to try and coast and get off an exit. Way too many people killed by drunk drivers when they have a flat tire.
