Driving impressions on first day to work with new car

So today was my first day driving to work in my 2014 E550. Mixture of highway and twisty mountain roads. Trip here was around 90 minutes and covered just under 70 miles. Gas mileage averaged 26.4

Heat setting on 1 and fast and vigorous massage on the seat made the drive ever so luxurious. The auto headlights turned on and off as the weather changed as did the rain sensing wipers. This car just gets better and better each day. How long does it take for the to wear off?

26.4 MPG, that is very respectable for a 400+ HP car, enjoy your new ride.

As I have commented before, I call the 550 thrifty. It checks all of the boxes for me. Enjoy!

ha ha, 25+ mpg, my 2014 E350 4Matic is giving only 24 on 70%hwy and 30% city.
see my signature for fuelly update.
I'm using Shell, premium. All fluids topped off(if that matters), using distronic+, the computer knows better on how to drive, than me. but, it has frequent braking, when someone comes in my way though.

Quick question, will Distronic+ uses engine breaking or wears off the actual brake pads?

Thanks.

Yeah my gas mileage is similar?

And if Distrionic is anything like ACC from BMW (which I'm sure it is), then it's using mechanical brakes.

Ya, so is that, for the rest of the people from the fuelly URL.
it is just that, it gave better on combined, even where there are 2 additional cyls and 100hp

Anyway, does either of these car shuts down half of the cylinders, when under certain conditions, like cruise control and smooth ride already.
Like the Acura does turn off 3 of it's cylinders for fuel economy..!

No, we don't have cylinder deactivation.

When you get a service bill, or even paying for prepaid maintenance, makes the shine wear off a tad. Also, given it is a used car, you'll find stuff out when you bring it in.

For example, as part of the CPO process I just found out that my rear bumper isn't perfect because the body shop that did the CPO paint work must have overheated it and it's just a tad misaligned. Without effort it cant ever be fixed and to be honest until a clip popped out I was none the wiser. Now I know. No one else would ever notice it though.

These cars are darn near perfect DD's in my opinion. I just can't stand the suspension with the sport package. I'll be upgrading to something else once they wear out.

I was given prepaid maintenance for the next 2 years with the purchase of the car and a CPO warranty until 2021 so hopefully I am covered for now. The car only has 21,800 miles on it and there are zero rattles or squeaks. As far as the suspension, I can't complain, I came from a 2007 Hyundai Elantra with 198,000 miles on it and it felt like I was driving a car with severely worn out shocks and struts (which they were.) I really wanted the airmatic suspension system, but I couldn't wait any longer trying to find a 2014 E550 with every option I wanted. This one was as close to perfect as I could find in my price range.

Wow, awesome warranty and maint deal. So they took away Airmatic as standard from the 550's now?

Airmatic became optional in the 2012 model year for the E550.

But true. The love relationship momentarily ends but it does rekindle after the issue is fixed. We love these cars like our children hence we spend money on them even when it hurts the bank.

Haha, true. And we continue to adopt them and take them in as our own, even when their real parents (MBUSA) are bad people (i.e. wronging us, and not standing behind their product, and having bad customer service). And we stand behind "our children", even when they are bad---just like a parent with a child on trial for murder.

....this, my friend is what I call a...love/hate relationship with their real parents (MBUSA). Mercedes Benz...we love these cars and always will.

All of my cars (and bikes) thusfar are actual murderers. My current MB claimed a rabbit within the first couple months of ownership... caught a couple birds in the past with other cars...

The scariest one was on my bike when a chipmunk ran under my front tire at the apex of a high speed corner... Whenever I think of that moment, I can still feel the pop of its skull through the handlebars and loss of traction on the tire as it smeared Alvin's brains across the pavement and wondering if the bike was going to fly into the trees... Good times. /back to topic

To OP, when the wears off, you'll know you're ready for a tune... then it comes back and is bigger than ever lol

The dealer gave me this vehicle(before signing), for a day to keep, so that I can get a feel of it and not negotiate the price much. Almost after 10 miles, I ran over a squirrel. It ran towards the bushes, but I know it'll die later..!

So, I claimed a Squirrel, even before I owned it..!

I one upped myself:

27.4 mpg on a 235 mile jaunt across the state of Massachusetts. Again, not to shabby for a 400+ hp AWD Sedan that weight 4500+ lbs

Yeah the E550 is awesome on the highway.....just don't post rush hour inner city commuting. My instant economy often does not go above "11.8" on the way home.
