You have to pay to play.

Unless you buy a car that appreciates or holds it value. It's very possible.

Used examples I've toyed with over the years:
CTS-V wagon - appreciating now
FX50/50S - very slowly depreciating
Leaf - you can get a $40k for $7k now so how much can it still depreciate?
911 - bubble alert, but still a good place to park your $
Etc
