My car appears to have an air conditioning vent complete with on/off dial in the glove box, but no on/off switch for the radio
The vent in the glove box is to store food(snacks) or milk. I usually put around 4-5 protein bars and replace them when ever I eat one The vent is always half open, because it is not getting heat when the car is under the sun anyway(I leave the pano crack open, use those silver shields on the windshield to reflect sun, and rear retracteable blinds ON).
pics of your car's dash please.
The round button in the middle of 'Previous' and 'Next' buttons is the power button.
Ok, I also rescind this statement...lol
It was bothering me so I went out there and tried this again, voila it worked! It's a very precise way you have to hold the handle https://youtu.be/maNHJbL5QSw
Thanks to silverp30 for the suggestion
So this method works from ANY of the doors! Very nice find. Now because I like to complain, I have to say it would be cool if you do it from the front passenger side and it turns on both ventilated seats, rather than just the driver seat. But I digress... cool feature nonetheless.
I still feel bad we can't lock the doors while the engine is running.
I had a cold start this morning, put my office bag, in the car and I'm ready to go, waiting for my roommate (he is locking the house doors), so, I can drop him at his office.
Now, he messaged me, saying he can't find his keys, and I have mine with me.
I can't leave the car running, and not locking the doors, because, once the engine is running, you can drive the car, without key (I tested) until you stop the engine somewhere.
I don't want to stop the car in the middle of the warm up of a cold start, but eventually, I had no choice left.
I hated that I can't do it. A f*ing Chevy Sonic or a Ford focus can do it, why not ours?

Am I alone with this kind of request?
Yeah I think you may be alone in your passion. Welcome to the world of "luxury".
Some things we have to make sacrifices for. Most of us are used to the luxury "gremlins"

It is the matter of priorities.
I can start my Ford truck from 300 feet ,what is nice when you left it on 130F parking lot. Still takes inserting the BLADE to drive.
But MB focus on security and they avoid such temptations.

Ford Mustang has push button start, remote start, and can lock the doors when the engine is turned on. If the engine is remotely started, it'll automatically shutoff as per driver's settings, for 5, 10 or 15mins, if the driver doesn't put it in drive mode. Also, the A/C can be adjusted accordingly, either Auto or preset to settings before shutdown, previously, along with defrosting the rear windshield.
So, security can be still achieved, along with the features, convenience, and, luxury..!
Evidently MB has different sense of security than Ford.
Tesla allows you to preheat, or precool your car form smart phone.
I wonder how much security is there.
You can lock the doors with the valet (metal) key while it's running... I've done that when I need to run back inside to get something. Not ideal, but it works.

Great, that is good to hear we have that feature, one way or the other.
Thanks.

I guess, the doors will/can be locked from outside(keyfob), when doing that
Heck, Russians keep hacking FBI and other agencies on daily bases, so how long would take one to hack the Internet connection you make with your car?
Driving black MB in 110F heat I sure would like remote start like my Ford truck does, but as always in life - cant have everything.
Have not seen this mentioned. This feature may be linked to the type of Climate Control installed.
In case you have your sunroof open, or any of the windows partially / fully open, and you enter a tunnel (or have to take a phone call), pressing and holding the re-circulate button shuts the sunroof and all windows.
When you exit the tunnel (or finish your phone call), press and hold the re-circulate button again, and the sunroof and windows return to their original positions.

Yes, this is an awesome feature I have been using since the days of W203!
It also is designed to activate the advanced features of the cabin filter, and filter out any nasty smells or odors.
Also, the "Rest" feature is useful: when you shut your engine off temporarily (i.e. running into the convenience store for a sec), you can use the residual heat from the engine to keep the cabin warm for passengers, etc.

I tried this numerous times on my 2014 E550 and it does not work. Does anyone else with a 2014 have this issue? Maybe the did away with this feature for the 2014-2016 models and then brought it back for the W213?

It didn't work for me, tested just now.
This just gave me one more reason to get into the car, lol.
211 – when air recirculation mode button is held down for more than 2 seconds, all the windows and the tilting/sliding roof or panoramic roof close. When the button is held down again for more than 2 seconds, the components return to their original positions.
I believe this was eliminated in 212 as it is not referenced in any of the operating manuals including facelift , only smart key open/close convenience feature is referenced.

While you're cruising at 75mph, with adaptive cruise control; if you are stuck behind a car in front of you, and you have the opportunity to overtake from left(USA), and your speed got reduced to 70 or below(whatever), just use the left indicator, it'll speed up a bit(instead of 100ft, it'll reduce the following distance to 50ft), after 1 full second, and you're ready to overtake.
Either I didn't notice or it doesn't work when I activate right side indicator.
Or, it is all my hallucination. Today, I got the idea of testing it, but haven't got the chance to do it..!

It works on my 2016 E300 (W212 face-lift) with THERMOTRONIC (3 zone) automatic climate control.
...and so, it happened to me yesterday. Back story; I rarely drive to work and when I do, I park my MB in the underground garage. I have a pretty bulky key bunch so I typically never put my keys my pocket but just throw them in my book bag. So, I got off work and headed down to where my car was parked. Long story short, opened the trunk first threw my bag in there hit he close/lock button. I took about 5 steps when I realised my keys where in the bag which I just threw in the trunk.Yes I did use an expletive when I realised what I just did. Yikes!!! Well, low and behold, the trunk lid shut but then opened back up again. I promise, there was nothing blocking it. So, I know now I can never "accidentally" lock my keys in the trunk. Otherwise, I would've had to call the wife who was 1 an hour away on the other side of town. Thanks MB.
