Engine bay sound proofing coming off
Sorry for no pictures.. The sound deadening material in my engine bay (black thick padding around and behind the engine) looks like it has shrunk and pulled free of the rubber molding that held it in place at the top. I asked the dealer about it when I was there Monday and the service manager looked at my car and two others they had...and all three had the same problem. Unfortunately they said it is a cosmetic issue and not covered under the warranty. They also said that to repair it would require removal of the engine.
I am guessing this is a frequent problem because the material has shrunk at least 3/4in. to pull free from the "U" section molding that holds it in place.
Have other seen this? Any suggestions on fixing it?

This information does help. Thank you all for the pointers. I had previously taken the car in to my dealer for a wheel repair and asked them about this while I was there. The service advisor said there was not known report or "recall" about this and that it was considered cosmetic and I would have to decide if I wanted to pay them to correct it.
I have written my advisor an email and sent them the TSB. I hope they cover it, but I am worried that the amount of shrinkage will be covered with the new molding with the longer retention edge. Mine is a good 1/2 inch below the current molding.
The second correction method mentioned in the referenced posting of using a "fender" washer will not work in my case as the sound proofing is coming off in many locations that do not have any screws/bolts etc. in the area. I wish it was that simple.
Ill report on the dealer's response when I hear from them. Fingers crossed.

Your not alone.......This is a common problem with all Mercedes Benz. You also forgot to mention the sound proofing on the underside of the hood, shriveling up.

Do you mean under the hood? In the skeletal structure? Just rip it off and replace it with this stuff.
