What tire size for 20" when 235/30 won't work?
Car: E350 4matic 2011 Estate
I have read everything I can read regarding tire size for 20" rims, and there are a lot of combinations mostly including 235/30 in front.
The problem for me is that 235-tires are to narrow for my 20" rims, meaning that the edge of the rims sticks outside of the tire. I don't like this and it has also caused two tires to run flat because of air leakage.
Specs for the rims are: 20x9.5 - Offset: 45
I did run specs and tire size through the calculator at tiresize.com and when I enter the original size 245/45-17 it shows that 245/30-20 will deviate +0,4% in diamater from the original specs.
I read that the max deviation is 1% but the recommended is max 0,5%.
So if I get for example 245/30 in front and 275/30 in the rear; will the tires then rub?
Thanks in advance for any help :-)

Why are you trying to put different size tires on a square wheel setup to begin with?
Just go with a 245/35 tire and be done with it on your 9.5" wheels.
I have 245/35 and 285/30 on my 19" wheels with a 38ET and 52ET, but my wheels are staggered 19x9 and 19x9.5. The difference is .1% for my 4Matic. No issues at all.

I would go 245/30/20. I ran 245/30 on a 20x9 32 et lowered with no issues.

Hi KEY08.
You just learned me a thing or two in just a sentence. I honestly didn't know the difference between a staggered or a square setup and didn't know this was a thing.
But since I have 9.5" Wheels both in front and rear, I should go with the square setup.
Absolutely Perfect. 245/35 it is
PS: Will the 245/35 9.5" be a problem if I decide to lower the car?

Hi Ed99!
I can see that you already answered my question in the post I just made.
Then I will go for 245/30. My main concern was either way how the setup and dimension-game worked, but that's now handled.
Thank you very much!

FYI- the 245/30 tire sidewall is 2.9". As long as that is what you are looking for then you should be good.

Okay - so 2.9" on 245/30 and 3.4" on 245/35. So the difference is 0.5", but this is just a matter of taste (how much rubber you want) and doesn't have anything to do With compatibility?

Correct. It's all aesthetics and protection from pothole encounters.

I run 245/35r20 on my front 20x9's. No rubbing issues. It is lowered, but not slammed. I am going to try lowering the front a bit more in the next few days. I don't believe it will be an issue. Wheel offset and tire brand will play a role for you though. some tires tread width runs wide, some narrow. Pilot Super Sports are a more square wide tire where the hankook v12 and pirelli pzero nero gt are very narrow. I am running the hankook fronts on my car now.
