Modifying strut plate to fit 20" rims
Hello everyone, recently purchased a 2014 E350 coupe 4matic as well as 20" rims. The front tires wrapped in 245/35/20 are rubbing heavily against the strut plate. I do not want to get different tires because it will change the relationship between the front and rear tires of revolutions per mile to a difference of 3% as opposed to the recommended 1% as far as 4matic goes. Has anyone on here modified the strut plate to be able to fit these wheels ? The difference between my stock 18 wheels and tires and these is really only about an inch in height and a slight difference in width. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should run 245/30/20 instead. Since your car is 4matic the rear tire have to be 285/25/20 to match the front. They're the same diameter on both sizes I believe.

It's hard to avoid the rubber band when you are at 20" wheels or above. That was my fear in our other discussion that you really were not going to find tires that work without big sacrifices, not to mention having to buy new tires. Your speedo is also going to be off by a pretty good margin, but maybe that doesn't bother you.

My 20's don't rub. E550. Prob Have the wrong offset rims Not tire. I have 235/35 in front.
no way I would ever run a 20 tire in the rear. That's not enough side wall .
could you run a simple wheel spacer to bump it out a little. Like a 1/4" plate style spacer.

C Smith probably thats what it is....i have just looked at it through my stock wheels where there is enough space to see, it looks like a steel protector for the strut *♂️

That's the lower spring perch. Unless you're going to install coilovers (which typically have a smaller diameter spring) or a threaded sleeve-over like RENNtech or KW that replaces the lower perch, there's nothing to do.
Your best bet is get wheels and tires that fit your application. It'll be cheaper that way.
