2010 e550 muffler/exhaust
Hey guys,
Great to be here and glad I'm here. First time Mercedes owner. Inspired by my best friend's amg, I decided to go with e550 to get a more affordable v8. Greatest purchase of my Life by far. I love ever minute I drive it.
Also, inspired by how great my friend's amg sounds, I decided to take an affordable route to make my new pride and joy sound good too. I did a muffler delete on it and it sounds great. But it drones A LOT around 1500 rpms. I did some research and was told to put in a capped j pipe resonator. I did that too. It reduced it a bit but not fully gone.
My questions, to you enthusiasts, are:
1 - is there a good aftermarket muffler, reasonably priced that will let my V8 roar and still be a little quiet on the inside?
2 - if not, what can I do now to reduce the drone even further?
3 - I've only owned it for 3 weeks now. Slowing buying mods for it. What are some performance tunes I could do to let the V8 breath and unleash all the potential it has?
I know, I sound too excited. I've just never loved a vehicle more than this. Previously owned an Acura TL

Another member here has a Meisterschaft e63 system for sale for a decent price. I bought wheels from him and he was a solid seller. I'm not positive if he still has it or if it has sold. I have the exact same system on my e550. The e63 version is a direct bolt on for the e550 however you simply replace the diffuser with a carbon fiber one or enlarge the opening around the exhaust tips. The e63 variant has attached quad tips that look great. The sound is perfect. His also has electronic valves to quiet it down if you want to, however I don't find it too be too loud in any instance. It sounds perfect to me both inside and out of the car.
The OE Tuning tune has been great in mine as well. Those two mods woke up the driving experience a lot. It's quicker and sounds like it actually has the v8 under the hood that we pay gas prices to enjoy!

I drive a 2010 E550 and as it comes it has quite bad accelerator pedal lag. This same problem I had on the 2011 E350 that I first had.
I purchased a Sprint Booster and that takes care of the lag and makes the car a lot faster from line. Highly recommend unless you choose to go with some actual tuning process. Sprint Booster only cost $300 and is a simple plug-and-play easy to install and remove.

How much drone did the J pipe cap helped and did that quiet the exhaust notes too? Congrats with your E550. I also came from a TL as well.

I did the muffler delete with the J Pipe addition and I could not be happier on my 2011 E550 (especially with the paddle shifters) There is no drone while cruising in mine at all speeds. You only get the great noise that everyone is looking for when hitting the gas or down/up shifting with the paddles. I will try and get a video some time.

it didn't quiet the exhaust. the drone happens roughly around 1500 to 2000 RPM. Still happens just not as heavy. the J pipe was put basically where the muffler delete was. Was it supposed to be put further up the exhaust pipe? The shop told me they didn't have any space for it. I should probably find a different shop but I was just trying to find a new muffler overall that'll still keep the v8 sound but quiet the drone. But i'm open to all options

You can't put the pipe just anywhere. There's a formula to determining its exact location. Read this:

I need to find a shop who is probably more experienced with this maybe.
