Transmission fluid.

Is Amsoil a good transmission oil to use in a Mercedes 722.9 transmission?
Is it necessary to flush, drain the Torque Converter.

I'm not sure what fluid your transmission takes. I believe the newer transmissions now take 236.15, previously it was 236.14. I think the cut over happened in 2011 so it's probably 236.15. In any event, if you check MB's approved fluid list, Amsoil isn't listed. 236.15 translates to ATF 134 FE and 236.14 is ATF 134. If you post your VIN, some kind soul with EPC access may be able to look it up for you.

I personally would use Amsoil up to 236.14 requirement but I think they incorrectly list the 236.15 for the Fuel Efficient ATF. The viscocities are so different between 236.14 and 236.15. If I had a 7G-Tronic I would do it in my car, but I found out I have the 7G Tronic Plus and did NOT use the Amsoil. I went with the MB certified Fuchs 236.15 fluid. Either way, Amsoil is definitely not approved by Mercedes.

2 side notes: I have a tech support call open with Amsoil on the 236.15. I came right out and told them i think they are wrong and asked for technical details. Also, I have a 2004 S430 4matic with the 5 speed and I have had good luck with the Amsoil in that one, but completely different transmission. I just made the comment from my personal experience with Amsoil in a MB gearbox. YMMV

Yes drain and flush the torque converter. mandatory.

You do not have the new fluid; we have the 7g normal non +, non purple fluid. 40k miles not 70k.

nowhere have i ever seen amsoil listed as mb approved for engine or trans. Best to stay away, not enough savings in oil/gear oil to risk it. will it work, maybe, but they wont pay to go through the rigorous testing required for the mb spec approval.

*has your car had the oil cooler seal leak repaired yet? how many miles are you at? (40k-60k it will appear depending on how you drive) That is something to look for in our cars. i have a 12 too
