Is BT audio already enabled or have you gone into engineering mode to enable it? Are you having the issue where the iphone needs to be registered via external authorization each time you cycle comand to connect again?

I have an early 2011 and an iPhone 7, and everything that was possible in 2011 works for me: bluetooth audio streaming and telephone calls via bluetooth.
I can not read text messages on the COMAND, that came later.
You are not giving enough information. What do you mean by "control the command"? What is working and what is not working? What do you want it to do? What can't you get it to do?
