2012 E350 - Engine idle sound is not like my previous E350
I recently picked up a 2012 E350. Car rides really well but i have noticed the engine idle sound is not smooth like the previous series E class. I had a 2006 350 and it idled such a way that you barely heard the engine. Here, the engine sound is pronounced. Is this due to direct injection? And is this normal?

2013 E350
The first time I heard the direct inject 302 V6 -- tick, tick, tick . . . or tap, tap, tap -- I asked the dealer if this was normal. I thought the used vehicle might have bad valves or something. But, no, that is the normal sound, and I eventually bought a 2013 E350 with that engine. I don't hear the sound in the car, and I like the engine a lot so far. More than enough power and good enough gas mileage for me.

Your old car had the M272 engine...... completely different than your new M276 engine which is a bit noisier due to the direct fuel injection system. Now the M276 engines do have an issue with noisy high pressure pumps. It's not common but it does happen.
