Pondering aftermarket warranty

Bought a warranty from Endurance for my 14 E350 Wagon. Wondering if it will be worth it. What are the main "issues" on the W212? Is the airmatic suspension known to fail? 4Matic system? Warranty was $4700 for a 7/125,000 Platinum. Car has 52,350 miles on her. Its my first Mercedes. There is a good German independant up the road in Charleston. But plan to have it dealer serviced as they are closer.

Wowsers the mercedes extended limited warranty for 7years unlimited mile is only like $2000. I dont know if airmatic is "known" to fail. I think of them as more of a wear and tear item that is expected to eventually fail. Weather it's at 50,000 miles or 200,000 miles is beyond me. 4matic I dont have any idea sorry.

Every car will have it's own gremlins, but from my understanding the w212 platform has a lot of kinks worked out and is pretty reliable.

I thought the wagon/estate only had rear air bags for self leveling purposes. You don't have front Air shocks, so not really Airmatic system. The big cost in Airmatic is replacement of the front shocks when they fail and potentially causing a pump failure as well. I think you will never see a benefit of the $4,700 you just spent, sorry.

Don't have to be a CPO, just need to satisfy the condition: 4yr/50k miles from the date of purchase, whichever comes first.! I got mine 4 months shy 4 year date at 42kmiles and paid around 3100 for 7yr/100k miles ELW. (Purchased from Nissan Dealer).

Suggest you take a close look at the Extended Warranty Discussion forum on this site: MB World Extended Warranty Discussions. After looking at it I ended up getting a 7yr/75k Mile MB ELW for $1900. The MB ELW is essentially a MB CPO warranty with mileage limitations. I purchased my MB wagon from an Audi dealership (it was traded in for an Audi SUV).

There's a lots of little details in those warranties. First because he's either over 4 years or 50k, it no longer qualifies for ELW, those are either 7/75 or 7/100k max. The CPO warranty is unlimited miles and it's different from the ELW. You still have to be in warranty to qualify for the ELW. CPO you only get from an MB dealer and you can extend it up to 2 years so 3 years max on a CPO warranty. If an MB dealer sells the car without a CPO I believe that stops you from buying an ELW, but you can still do ELW if it's from a 3rd party dealer or private sale and still within 4/50k.

Anyway, I'm up to over 120k on my 2011. I suppose it might be a toss up. There's things like motor mounts, tensioner/belts, thermostats, alternators, suspension, etc that can all add up if you take it to the dealer. If you go to an indy, it might have been a waste.

Not from MB. You can only buy the extended warranty from MB if the car is less than 4 years old and has less than 50k. Otherwise I'm sure there are third party companies out there that will sell you an extended warranty, but they're probably going to be expensive. The problem with 3rd party warranties is that they sometimes go out of business, have deductible and other terms/conditions, don't cover as much, require pre-approval or will refuse a warranty repair. Which is why most people prefer the manufacturer's warranty, a lot less hoops to jump through. Third party warranties are usually more expensive too because there's usually a large commission for the selling dealer.

This is a great point. Steve Lehto (occasional Jalopnik contributor) has several videos about the potential pitfalls of Aftermarket Warranties. Check out this one on the topic:

Great advice. I bought my car when still within mfg warranty from a third party dealer but verified it was eligible for ELW before purchase. I bought the 7/100k ELW from another dealer recommended thru that forum and I have used it with zero problems. MB still made a little money on it but it has been useful.
I've has the same thoughts as you on where to go from here. Car only has 54k miles but ELW expires November.
I am very leery of warranty providers other than mfg. so my choice is that I become the warranty or go with another car. Basic risk evaluation. If I went with another car the odds are that I would pay more to get into it than I would encounter in repairs on my current car. Current car is well maintained, has work history and I know it. Plus I like it a lot. I do hobby restorations so I have more than average tools and pretty good mechanical knack. I also have ability to pay for repairs if it comes to that. Not playing look at me, just looking at hard factors that come into play for anyone pondering extended warranties.
So I will probably keep the car for now without any further warranty. If I see an increasing number of issues I'll consider it a bad trend and then move towards consideration of another vehicle. I dont buy new, I buy used within original mfg warranty to give me a cushion in case the rose is actually a lemon.

After pondering the what if's and doing extensive research on this platform with this powertrain, I think I am going to cancel the Endurance warranty. Its an exclusionary policy, but after reading the fine print and some reviews of owners who actually had to use it. I feel that its not worth it. It has great reviews online, but they seem to be from people who haven't yet had to use it. I understand that stuff happens, but I can afford to pay for any repairs barring a total engine replacement. These cars with this engine with the proper maintenance and care last "forever" so to speak. We plan on keeping it MB serviced while we own it (hopefully for a long time). Now if I was looking into an AMG model, then I would only go for vehicles that were still eligible for the MB CPO or ELW coverage. None of the aftermarket warranty providers have good reviews with actual users. Lesson learned here is to stick to lower mileage examples within MFG warranty like Mud stated in his reply. All in all glad to be a MB owner finally!

Well I thought the same thing and honestly when I purchased my e400 with 50600 miles on it I wasn't going to purchase any extended warranty.. I've owned many high mileage Mercedes and never had a catastrophy of a repair until this e400 .. so rite before exiting the dealer the pushy sales person started selling me on it . Needless to say I am glad I did .. only paid 100 bucks on a 7k repair .. ..actually add another 1500 to that repair cost as the fuel injector was 1500 but Mercedes covered it under there 80k emissions warranty
