It's really easy, with one exception. The hardest part of the process is getting inside the passenger footwell to put the screws back in - total PITA.

Had this issue on my W204 C and had the dealer do their cabin filter service during one of my B services, this involved injecting some foaming cleaner into the condenser. Yeah it was $200 which included a new cabin filter but it got rid of the odor which never returned, I do believe they have to drill a hole into the plastic housing that holds the condenser to inject the foam (at least on the W204 C).
