New Front Grille Paint Flaking Off

Hello, in October I purchased a new Fronte Grille off of eBay from a reputable brand. I waited until all the snow melted until I removed my destroyed old grille off my 2010 E550 4Matic Sedan. The new grille was installed about midway through April. Come to today I noticed that the black paint has become to flake off exactly how my first grille was. The grille has been on my car for less than half a year. I have contacted the seller and has offered to reimburse me for any repairs to get it back in a decent condition, but I've noticed that there are tiny bubbles about the size of a pen head forming on other areas. Suspecting that the paint did not cure properly how would you proceed with repairing either asking for a paint shop to repaint the entire grille
or should I request a new grille be sent out.

- Jason

Unless you at least scuff up the chrome finish, paint will never adhere. I've done a lot of vehicle painting over the years - what I do in this sort of application is scuff up the surface to eliminate shine and give paint some tooth to adhere to. I then use either epoxy primer or adhesion promoter, then color paint. Most aftermarket just throw some paint on and call it done.

But even with quality application a forward facing trim piece is at the mercy of everything on the road. IMO you could wrap the grille and get a great result , usually a bit more durable too.

Even though I could have painted it I went the wrap route on all trim and have been happy with the results.

Thank you for your input, i'll have it checked out to see the cost of getting the black areas, wrapped in black vinyl.
