What happened on Monday. I called yesterday and it was "escalated to the person to approve" and I'm to hear back in 24 hours. How did you make out? Mine is a 2015 C300 with a little over $60,000 miles.

They gave me a credit. I think it was like $300 towards repair. I could have had the 3rd party seat guy the dealership used to repair it but it was just sewing up the rip which would have been $300 or so. I opted to have them replaced the entire bottom seat and paid the difference.

Thank you for getting back to me. I missed the guy's call, returned it and missed him. My guy at the Mercedes dealer said it was going to be $1,000 to replace the cushion. Did you take it to the dealer or somewhere else?

$1000 for seat cushion seems high. Konigster can probably pull the part number for you so you can see how much the seat parts actually cost.

I didn't have the entire seat bottom replaced. What they did was take the old/ripped cover off and replace the cover. This was like 500 or so for parts and labor.

Tex sepaaration - Cover Replacement

That's exactly what I was told. They will be replacing the cover. If when they get it off they see the seat needs to be replaced as well, they'll replace the seat. There is nothing wrong with the seat. It's the cheap TEX they use apparently. I'm 110 lbs and the only person that is ever in my car. I thought Mercedes was the BEST or NOTHING. My labor cost, that I'm responsible for is $344. plus tax. I was told the part was about $291. This is outrageous. Almost $400 out of pocket for me?

I just looked back thru my email. There was my quote below before the 300$ customer care credit was applied.

That is basically the price at the MB dealer. You might find an upholstery shop that will do it for less, but maybe not much less. That's probably a decent price for the seat cover, you should see how much the real leather seat cover is, about $1000 but then again, the real leather doesn't rip. Just be happy that your seat heater still works, that's also known to go out also and should be replaced at the same time.

Thanks for that. My labor is more than double what your's is. They're paying for the parts. But I'm responsible for the labor which I was told was $344 plus tax. I think I just saw a post from someone that they had success in getting it covered under the 100,000 mile warranty because MB knows of this defect.

How do I proceed with getting this covered under the extended warranty. At the moment I'm having MB order the part and I'm responsible for the labor which is ridiculous. How do I prove they know of this defect before the expiration of the 50,000 mile. My warranty expires in May of 2020. It's a 2015 C300. I bought it in 2016 with 10,000 miles on it. This should NOT be happening.

Oh yeah, I guess you could try negotiating the price. Here's one place that sells the seat cover for $241 plus shipping:

https://parts.mercedesbenzofwappingersfalls.com/oem-parts/mercedes-benz-seat-cover-21291073468p26

And work them down on the labor costs, get them to match the $150 mentioned earlier or just call around to other MB dealers in the area for a price and ask your local one to price match it.

It was never covered under the extended warranty, only under factory warranty. Sounds like the factory warranty expired. Extended warranty isn't as good as the factory warranty.

I saw someone had success in getting it covered under their extended warranty since they know of the defect. I apologize. I thought I was replying to the success post. :-)

yeah..if you're in a area with multiple MB dealers i would call around. My city only has 2 MB dealers and the one I usually go to had a higher price than the one that actually fixed it.

also, ask if they are using an outside upholstery guy to do the fix or if they are actually fixing it themselves. most of the time its an outside guy that does that work for them. both my dealerships had outside guys as they MB techs are not specialists in this time of work.

i got his number and asked him directly how much it would cost to do the same work without involving MB.

You've basically had some luck getting some of it covered. Depends on the dealer and the amount of good will you get. I don't know if the C class also had some letter that mentioned the defect, maybe someone else will chime in if there was. Some also get it covered under the CPO if they find it right away even though the CPO wouldn't cover it either.

I think that was supposed to be a bit of sarcasm, not opinion. That's MB's advertising line, the best or nothing. But at least you got something from them instead of nothing. But I guess it wasn't the best.
