W212 Bluetooth audio streaming
im having W212 2009 year, E class - Avantgard.
I have bluetooth telephony which works okay, but i cant stream music via bluetooth from phone.
I know of secret menu and my bluetooth audio option was grayed out there.
Went to MB service and did software update, and now i cant even see grayed out bluetooth audio option.
Anyone knows how to solve this?
16.600 build, new software update
Build 20.100 - old software, stock software
As far as I know, you cannot stream music via BT on these till 2016 model with CarPlay. BT only allows phone calls on earlier models.
On our car, we have a MMI BT adapter that allows streaming music via BT. It emulates a connected iPod.
It’s a bit clunky, but when listening to streamed music and you get a call... you have option answer in-car via command. One issue, after a call it doesn’t always switch back to streaming BT.
I plan to get a CarPlay unit that will have a better interface.
Copied from another thread...
Hope this helps
"-End Call + # + 1: opens Engineering Mode
- HU Settings
- HU Parameter
(the following are the settings I put them in)
(1) BT contact plate: Not Installed
(2) LCT: Installed
(3) BT audio: On
(4) Audio Aux: Off (greyed out: not an option)
(5) Video Aux: Off
(6) Navi: installed
(7) BT: on
-back buttonx2
-pull command wheel down
- system reset
- reset - yes
- go to audio, then go to the audio tab again to bring up the drop down menu of audio options, select BT audio and activating audio device comes up, then the audio streaming screen
I have included screen shots of all the important steps (sorry for the poor quality but it was night time and the flash on my phone kept going off) Let me know if I need to clairfy ne thing."

My 11 E350 wagon only lets me stream BT phone.
Weird. I like the idea of an MMI BT adapter, though. Easier than getting to a dealership for a radio firmware upgrade that may or may not work.
