2014 E400 HYBRID TRANSMISSION
I need advice- have a 2014 E400 Hybrid (yes, there are not many around). Had a B service done in mid-June- MB (NY) said should have a transmission flush. Ok done. ~12 weeks later, car went into limp mode. Car taken to MB (OK) said it needed a TCU. ok done. 5 weeks after that, car driven a a few hundred miles, no lights, car decelerates, goes into limp mode and oil light comes on. Daughter on side of road. Car towed 100 miles back to MB. they called to say- it needs a new transmission. 12K. Vehicle bought new in 2014, has 74K on it. They did try to peddle they tested the TCU and it was not faulty. Also stated same code came up this week as last month when they told me it needed a TCU. No warranty left. This vehicle has never been touched by anyone other than a MB dealership. Thoughts? Do I have a lemon? Thanks.

Why does it need new Tranny?
What is wrong with old one?
Can it not be rebuilt?
Kinda crazy to need new tranny under 100k miles.... heck yugos lasted longer.
Can I suggest getting scond opinion from another dealership?

The car had the transmission Control unit replaced in Oct around the 3rd week. The car decelerated- no warning and would not go over 2nd gear. We cant take it to another MB dealership since it got towed there (100 miles) and the tranny is destroyed. My daughter went up there and took pictures of it after they took it out. They gave her a loaner. But called me to say it was gonna be 12k. And they do not think this is their issue. They said they tested the unit they put in and it was not defective. (??) It is destroyed. Black metal shards all over the place- it looks like it detonated inside. So car is up on a lift immobile. But she is driving a brand new 2019 e300. Waiting for them to tell her to take it back and write a check :-( I am going to the dealership today that sold me the car 4 yrs ago to see if they will help. But the car is now 2000 miles away. Thank you for your reply- I think the tranny should last longer than 74K.

Hi, I am not sure how I would accomplish that. The car is literally on the lift with no transmission in it. I wish I could post the picture that shows the trans with all the metal shards on it. I am on my way to the dealer who sold me the car and 2 others. Wish me some kind of luck- they will no doubt laugh since the car is out of warranty.

Sad to hear it. I have 2 of 7G transmissions at home, each with over 180k on it and they perform flawlessly. Meaning they don't grenade at will, making me thinking that either you (your daughter) have very bad luck, or dealer screw something.
But the truth is that once you tow it to stealer, you are on the hook.
Contact member handle MAVA on benzworld. He is expert rebuilding 5G and has good knowledge about 7G as well.
Knowing the history of codes would be great help?
