I have a 2014 E-350, and the rear LED light on one side is out. There is no warning light on the dash that indicates that the light is out. I took it to an independent Mercedes shop and the guy said that the whole light assembly will need to be replaced. The part is around $250.
I'm surprised that we have to replace the whole light assembly if the lights go out. Please let me know if you have any experience with this and what are the options
.
Thanks for the links and the instructions. I may have to end up buying a new unit to get this working.
I'm surprised that the LED lights went out so quickly. If anyone has any other suggestions to check before buying the new tail lamp, please let me know.
Thanks for the PN. I verified that it's the PN that I needed so I went ahead and ordered it but not on ebay. The ebay seller has some sketchy reviews. https://www.mbpartsprime.com/ has it and it's been shipped, I should have it soon.

Probably the electronics. You could try redoing the solder joints on the board of the taillight.
Or just sell the old one on Ebay, for some reason people still buy broken stuff.
Good news - I noticed tonight that the light has come back on. I just hope that it stays on and I don't end up wasting money unnecessarily for a new unit.
Have you tried just unplugging then replugging the light assembly? Sometimes one of the pins doesn't make good contact or there's a bit of corrosion in the connector.
This method fixed an intermittent "off" situation with the back up camera in my car.
Wow, is replacing the whole assembly really the only way to fix this?
Well considering an entire assembly is under $200, it's probably cheaper than doing board level diagnostics and no guarantee that it will be fixed permanently. At least with a new one you have a one year warranty and it will probably last as long or longer than the original one. It's not common for them to fail.
related thread that I created a while back for the inner tail light. might be helpful
but yes ... outer or inner tail light assembly must be replaced as a whole assembly.
they can be found for cheap

I posted this very same problem not too long ago. It is an intermittent problem on these taillights. Another poster (in my old thread) said the same as above: failing solder joints. It is worth it for me (2 bills worth it!) to open up the assembly and hit all the connections with fresh solder. It can't hurt. I just haven't gotten the time to do it yet...
The best thing that ever happened to the electronics industry is the banning of lead in solder. Government mandated planned obsolescence! A much better path would have been the required recycling of electronic parts.
