Might want to post here also - https://mbworld.org/forums/california-139/
I have not gotten any recommendations from either forum.
Are people secretive about their shop choices or is everyone stuck with dealerships?

That can give you a feeling how owners feel about the MB service. When I DIY and go to dealer only for SCN coding, or alignment, there is Bay Area member who I met personally and he was going to several MB independent shops.
I recall he prized one in Benicia till something went wrong.
Bottom line, something went wrong sooner or later will all of them.
"you want something done right >>>> DIY"
Good luck.

If you are looking for a shop beyond the regular stuff I can recommend Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley. They do tuning and aftermarket besides just the regular stuff. They primarily work on VW Group cars and I've taken my Audi RS5 to them for all kinds of things that I don't wanna have done at the dealership, but I'm planning to take my future C63 S there, too for the same stuff.
If you are just looking for a regular independent Mercedes shop to do maintenance and repair, I recommend Universal Auto Center in San Leandro. The owner Kai is a friend of mine. He is from Germany and will tell you how it is. He only works on BMWs and Mercedes' and knows his stuff. Tell him Marcel the Swiss guy sent you and I'm sure he'll give you a good deal.

The Bay Area/San Francisco 560 SL Mechanic?
Hey Everyone! I'm new to this forum and bought an '87 560SL. I've seen some helpful hints and great suggestions so my thanks to everyone for all your previous posts!! Wondering if anyone has suggestions for independent mechanics who work on 560SLs in The Bay Area/San Francisco...? I live in The East Bay but can travel pretty much anywhere in The Bay Area if its the right mechanic!! Seems like there are fewer and fewer of these old school mechanics so hoping some of you have some suggestions...? Many thanks in advance!! Here are a couple pics!!

That is a R107 (1971-1989 SL class roadster), not a W212 (2010-2016 E class sedan/wagon). There is a separate section here on MBWorld for that model, here... https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-slc-class-r107-62/
Classic btw. my friend had a 73 450SEL limo from that same era.
this is a different forum, but might have more older benzes... https://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c...-slc-class.29/
