Just bought a pre-facelift W212 E350 CDI Sport, and it's great, just sorting out some niggles now, and learning more about the car! Previous BMW E39 owner....
One of the issues is the heated seats: On the passenger side, the back, side bolsters, and the base sides and under thigh elements are all working, but the main lower/base/*** element doesn't seem to come on. On the driver's side, the back and side bolsters work, but none of the 'lower' base ones do.
They're also quite slow to warm up. The lights on the dash do turn on and go from 3 to 2 to 1, as they should, but it's slow to actually provide the heat.
I'm aware that it's most likely that the elements have been damaged by kneeling/kids jumping on them (pricey) but I was hoping for a troubleshooting guide on the 1% off-chance that it's a fuse or connector that's at fault.
Does anything like this exist, or could you guys offer any help troubleshooting e.g. where are the relevant fuses located, which connections to check, and are there different connectors for the different elements, or is there just one connection to power all the heating elements?
I've tried to look under the seat from the back, but it's hard to see anything down there!
Pretty simple since all sections are fed by the same circuit it's not a fuse or relay. It could be a connecting wire from the bottom to the back for example. You need to remove the actual cover (MBTex or leather) to get to the heating mat. You might be able to do yourself (held by what are called 'hog rings) personally you need an upholstery shop and then maybe new heating mat.
If VIN is A703331 or lower, heating element installed at production is defective and replaced with modified part. See attached bulletin. Normally associated with lump but even if not to the point of forming lump one should argue for MB goodwill replacement: http://mercedes-benz.custhelp.com/ap...es-benz-usa%3F
