Is there a resource that shows estimated shop times for spark plug replacement and air filter replacement for an E550 ‘12?
meaning how long would it take someone to replace them? If so, the air filter is easy and will take all of 10 minutes to take the cover off, unscrew the filter housing, put new filters in, and put it back together again. While the cover is off, you can then disconnect (if you are replacing the packs too) and unscrew the 8 coil packs (probably 15 minutes to do that job). Then to take out the 8 plugs, as long as you have the correct tools, would be about another 15 minutes or so. Putting in the new plugs, making sure they are gapped and torqued correctly, about 20 minutes or so. They usually come pregapped so no real need to gap them. Another 15 minutes to replace the coils. Then out the engine cover/filter housing back on and you are done. All-in, about 1-1/2 hrs if you have the correct tools.
Get the EPC/WIS/ASRA. Epc is electronic parts lookup and once you punch the vin in, you can look up all the parts for your car. WIS is the factory manuals on how to repair the car and the ASRA tells you how much book time a repair is supposed to take.
You can get a knock off of the system on eBay, a little over $6.
Hey thanks! I think that is the DVD set I bought the other day off eBay. Just haven’t gottem around to opening it!
