DIY front airmatic strut on W212 E550 w/o 4Matic
Here's a video I just uploaded which documents the process of removing and replacing front air struts on my E550. At the time I did this there were no videos available so I hope this is helpful to others.

Great video, very informative. I've been pondering an E550 and what it would take to change the airmatic units and now I know it's pretty simple. But, unfortunately, pretty expensive.
What I didn't realize before is that the damping function is still basically a hydraulic shock absorber, the airbag just provides springing and ride height. And when the damping part werars out you're in for a whole unit even if the airbag's still working ok.

After having purchased the correct tools this job was very easy. Anybody who is just a little hands on person can do it. And there is no danger to mess up with alignment as there are no slotted alignment holes. Just round very accurate bolt holes.
