But were I designing a go-around electronic mod, I'd like the open feature to be a foot sweep, but no need whatsoever for it to close with the foot, just none at all, IMO. Seriously, why is this not a default function; seems strange esp since it's "MB" we're talking about here.

When you have your hands full coming to the car to put the stuff in the trunk, don’t you have the same hands full when you take the stuff out?

My need would be to close it with the foot sweep as when I come to my car from the grocery store the bags are in a cart. I fill the hook in trunk with bags and then at home my hands are full of bags and this is when I would benefit of the sweep closing the trunk.

I really don’t know or can’t imagine moment when opening the trunk with foot sweep would benefit me as my hands are free when I come to my car and it is just as easy if not easier just to touch the opening lever by hand.

True, I can't believe I didn't think of that.

I gotta tell ya, no, it's never happened to me in the way one thinks. I guess it's only when my arms have been full to load the trunk that I have needed to open it via foot sweep. But to unload, I end up emptying the trunk (groceries, Home Depot, luggage, etc) in which the car is almost always in the garage. So when it's all in the house or all out of the car, I walk back to the car and then close the trunk as I also normally check inside the car if I've left anything (before I close the garage). I suppose that's been my habit and I've never thought twice about it. So no, I never need --or have needed-- a foot-sweep closing feature. Perhaps I am unique in this respect.

In my case, I don’t have garage. My car is a small walk from my door and for some reason I always try to get all bags etc. with me on one go so I don’t need to go out again. This is important especially in rain as my car is not under roof.

Both hands and sometimes under arms full of stuff it is hard to reach that close button on trunk lid. Foot sweep would be nice feature for closing in case like this.
