Wish I’d had one..,
Might have helped figuring out where the chunk of something came from, I was just covered in glass but the windshield held. Happened Friday 6/21 on NSP Long Island, eastbound just past the Deer Park Ave on ramp that’s been under construction for over 6 months. The roads are literally crumbling beneath our vehicles.

I really wonder how often this happens to other drivers. I've heard of this type of thing killing people when some sick person throws something onto cars from an overpass. No overpass here though. I think it was just some chunk of concrete or asphalt kicked up from from the opposite lane.
I've also had two tire blow outs and a bent rim after owning this car for only 6 months, about $2,000 in damage!. Fortunately I have full glass insurance. But when I reported my tire blowout and bent rim, with the cost, to the NYS Highway department I found out something disturbing. The NYS Highway department has "exempted" themselves from road damage incurred b between November and May!
How convenient!! I've been driving on Long Island for 46 years and never experienced anything like this.

At least you can get some info in NY.
When in California, Caltrans was repaving about 20 miles of freeway where I was living. Since freeways have lot of day traffic, they've been doing work at night doing 1 lane at the time. New asphalt was having loose gravel on the edge and each time a car changed the lane, the rocks were flying. The job took several weeks and cost me 3 windshield bulls-eye. I emailed Caltrans to never hear back from them.

CalTrans sucks ***.
But yes, ALWAYS get a dashcam. Whether you have a Benz or a Yugo. Even if not for the car's sake for your own so some jagoff doesn't cause an accident and try to sue you.
Mine is okay, but not great, otherwise I would recommend it.
