Windshield cracked

Nothing but bad luck, 2015 e250 with all the sensors and distronics+ two cameras.

Need new windshield, aftermarket Chinese unit can be done for $450,

Mercedes is $1500, any advise? Just go aftermarket?
Mercedes dealership is next to usles quoting astronomical numbers if they do it

Mercedes does not change windshield. They use local glass shops for it. It will be done in MB location but not by them.

Don't you carry comprehensive with your insurance?

Aftermarket glass may have issues with sensors and that is why some glass shops do not install them. Safelitr did not do it for my far. They use MB glass and are actually higher prized than my MB dealer.

Had mine changed by Safelite under insurance. MB glass cost me $50 while generic would have been free. I've had vision distortion issues with non-OEM glass in the past. Safelite and insurance was far cheaper than anybody else

Sorry forgot to mention I'm in Canada, $1000 deductible, won't cover OEM, will only cover oee and that with their preferred glass party would still cost me $1000.

And yes I do have Rain sensing wipers.

I had mine replaced with a Pilkington brand windshield, it has rain sensors, works just fine.

Most companies do not apply the deductible to windshield replacement. If you go generic, do a thorough inspection of the optics of the glass before install and immediately after install. Issue I had was severe distortion of the glass around the perimeter. It had nothing to do with straight ahead sight but was very annoying to me to see the constantly changing shape of objects in my peripheral vision due to distortion

^ I have Allstate and Geico and both require me to pay the deductible on windshield replacement in Illinois. I know some states allow free windshield replacement. Why, I have no clue.

They don't have windshields for W212 yet, but in San Francisco area I had Pilkington glass installed on W210 for less than $200 on my driveway. With rain sensor tested after.

Your deductible for the coverage is quite high. Mine is $250 and I'm thinking to pay more to get it even lower. I’m on my 6th windshield on my car right now.

Comprehensive insurance is cheap even with minimal deductible.

I've had zero deductible on comp for years. I had one unlucky 98 Accord that had 3 claims in 8 years - one for break-in damage and two deer hits. In the past 5 years, I have gotten 2 windshields replaced on my wife's car but those are no cost in Florida anyway. Last week, I asked my agent how much I would save if I raised the deductible for comp to $1,000 and was told it would be $30 less per year. Not changing it.

Like I said comprehensive is very low cost even with zero deductible.
