Gearbox replacement VGS3 to VGS4
hi guys! so my question is if i want to replace my tranmission due to it being fualty, its a 2011 e250 with 7G gearbox with VGS3 control plate with a 2015 e250 7G box with a VGS4 control plate, can this be programmed to work with my car

The VGS4 most likely falls into the DAS4 security system. As of now, no you can not. But if they are the same 722.9 transmission, you can swap the valve bodies from one to another. Unless, it has metal shavings in it then you would have to clean everything.

I do think that the valve bodies will be the same maybe
It's 10months on after fitting new TCU and so far it's running fine . I do keep getting a TC fault on diagnostics but next time I'll change the TC lockup solenoid , should resolve the jerk in 2nd gear

Does this mean i can fit a 2016 722.9 gearbox to my 2011 by just swapping over the valvebody and conductor plate? will my vgs3 need programming to the new gearbox? do you know anyone that tried this?
