2015 E250 oil to use

Why does Mercedes have to be difficult.

They list 4 different oil specs for this vehicle and very annoying way to find out what's what and Which brand supports it.

I'm in the Toronto area, what oil should I buy? Filter is no issue to get from rockauto(or if you know a better place)

Is your E250 a diesel? If so, I have no idea how to interpret the table. Another reason not to own a diesel.

The gas models (except AMG) use Mobil 1 0w40. Easy peasy.

All dealers I know of use Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 for diesels and Mobil 1 Formula M 5W-40 for gas engines.
https://www.mobil.com/english-us/pas...formula-m-5w40

You may have to get it at the dealer. It should be ESP (low ash) for diesels and preferably Formula M (Mercedes extra-low alkaline content formulation).

The non-ESP Formula M is available on Amazon, but not the ESP. Neither are available at random stores. The non-Formula M that you can find is not a good way to save money in my opinion.

The diesels, especially the OM651, are fantastic cars... go away.

To the OP, you want to use the 229.52 spec, which means 5w30 or 5w40 depending on brand. There a lot's of cheap oil change kits with filters since the engine is used in sprinter vans. Link here: https://www.idparts.com/sprinter-21l...51-p-4704.html

I give you easy view :
Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-30 <=======* means approved in all 4 listings
Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 <<===** means approved in 3 listings

228.51
Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-30 <=======*
Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W-30
Mobil Delvac HD 10W-40

Fuchs TITAN CARGO 228.51 SAE 10W-40
Fuchs TITAN CARGO 228.51 SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN CARGO LA SAE 10W-40
Fuchs TITAN CARGO LA SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN CARGO MAXX 10W-40
Fuchs TITAN CARGO MAXX 5W-30

229.51 <<< note 229, not 228
Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30
Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 <=========*
Mobil 1 ESP X1 0W-30
Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 <<===**

Fuchs TITAN GT1 FLEX 23 SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN GT1 FLEX 34 SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO B-TEC SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO C-3 SAE 5W-30

229.52
Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30
Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 <=========*
Mobil 1 ESP X1 0W-30
Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 <<===**

Fuchs TITAN GT1 FLEX 23 SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO B-TEC SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO FLEX SAE 5W-30
Fuchs TITAN Supersyn 229.52 SAE 5W-30

229.31
Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30
Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 <=========*
Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30
Mobil 1 ESP X1 0W-30
Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 <<===**

For diesel, if I were you, I will use FUCH. Below is approved 228.51 , Fuch Canada website. Example : Fuchs TITAN CARGO MAXX 10W-40
https://www.fuchs.com/ca/en/special/...xx-sae-10w-40/

I like Fuch brand, it is very good for diesel. Their Titan Cargo family is diesel only use and extreme duty type.
However, Fuch Titan Cargo are sometimes available only by 200 liter drums in some market due to their customer base being big diesels.

Honestly, I fear 30W oil, I think it is too thin.

For gasoline engine, I will go for approved type Mobil 1, also 40W as I am in the tropics and I like pushing my engine to red line often.

Happy shopping..............

For gasoline engine owners, the foot note that AMG engines only allowed 40W type is a give away don't you think ?
Higher power = higher stress , 40W is better

Thanks, I see people use vacume pumps, is it needed? Or good old drain plug drain is sufficient?

Some shop likes to do vacuum and no need to open up plug and change the metal seal ring.
Actually vacuum is good after many hours engine shut down, all old oil at the pan and no mess

Damn my old eyes....
228.51 list is all diesel specific oil. Why did not I see that .
Mobil oil when it has DELVAC name on it, it is for diesel engine. Sama as Fuch Titan CARGO family.

1922 Ford Model T / no OBD
Those days using recommendation from 4 yo manual is like attaching dial pad to iPhone.
Start using MB internet list.
There are reports about several MB seized while serviced by dealers, who did not update their oils. Modern diesels are very sensitive to chemistry and small error can bring major failure.
I am using at 229.51 oils and autohousaz has good deal on Motul https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/TL-106377
