Bluetec, at-least in US market are all Diesel models. blueEfficiency, I think its only a badge on 2012 models, and from what I know MB stopped putting them on cars in order to avoid confusions like this one. Mine is 2012, and I have blueEfficiency sticker

For maintenance, if you are going to the dealer for service, be prepared to be violated.

From https://emercedesbenz.com/autos/merc...cy-technology/

"BlueEFFICIENCY – the trademark for exceptionally economical and ecofriendly Mercedes passenger cars – is a package of measures compiled by development engineers across all disciplines, the main aims being to reduce weight, aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance, to further optimise the engine technology, and to make energy management even more efficient."

My 4.7L TTV8 is tagged as "BlueEffeciency"... which to me says it means absolutely nothing.

Bluetec is whole car concept with ECO engine stops, regenerative charging and some other gadgets.
Blue efficiency applies to engine.
Both are promotional terms and have no real technical purpose, therefore I never study the details.
Sale pitch if you ask me.

Aren't all (modern) diesel engines BlueTec? And, as I understand, it earned the term "BlueTec" is due to the color of the additives into the system in an attempt to reduce emissions. So, while BlueTec might be a promotional term, it does serve a purpose.

It takes some efficiency to deserve Bluetec badge.
I think it is OM642 engine from 2007. that is Bluetec in E class, but cdi in ML class. Same engine pollutes more in heavier vehicle.

So, there was this... some time ago:

https://mbworld.org/forums/r-class-w...s-bluetec.html

Consensus seems to be that there's voodoo that happens in the emissions systems to make it BlueTec. Nothing mentioned about efficiency. But, I didn't realize there are still newer CDIs rolling around out there because I'm in PRK and they're not legal.

That's why I finally removed the BlueEfficiency badge from my front quarter panels - my M278 ain't a diesel.

Which would be BlueTec... ;-)

I wouldn't want that on my E550 either though.

Bluetec is diesels with exhaust aftertreatment. AdBlue fluid in the car as opposed to earlier methods.

Blue Efficiency means the car has 3 or more "efficient" technology items added, like Eco mode or what have you, and applies to the entire lineup, but yes they got away from that as it was confusing.
