Agreed. I've seen a lot of positive reviews. The Star diagnostic system with Xentry software is probably overkill for most DIY folks working on their Mercedes. And it has potential for really messing up a car if a person gets too adventurous. Xentry does have the benefits of including Mercedes repair instructions and parts catolog. These are the most attractive features to me.
But the iCarsoft is a very affordable system that is extremely easy to use, includes free lifetime updates, and doesn't require using bootleg software.

UPDATE
New dongle hit the market and beats MBII not only in functionality, but also in price.

I got an Icarsoft MBII and am real happy with it. Covers just about every euro car too. Just changed the transmission oil with it to monitor temperature and has lots of activations and data logging etc

Check their website.
Can anyone point out the functional differences between the ICarsoft MBII and the MB V2.0.? The V 2.0 lists ABS bleeding and Injector coding, which the MB II does not. Don't understand why they offer two, such similar products, at the same price. I must be missing something obvious. ??
Oops
If you want an OBD II scanner for multiple car brands, I would recommend the iCarsoft CR Pro or the iCarsoft EU Pro. The CR Pro will perform all the functions of any of the single brand specific scanners, but for most all auto brands. And the EU Pro will perform all the functions of any of the European single brand specific scanners, but will only work with European cars. The EU Pro would work with both your Cayenne and E350, and it will save you about $100 over buying the CR Pro.
For me personally, I'm about to pull the trigger on a CR Pro. It will work with my wife's Outback, and my E350. Plus I can use it on my son's Audi A4, or my daughter-in-law's Kia, and so forth.
I almost forgot. If you do decide to go with an iCarsoft, be cautious to buy a genuine model. There are many a report of someone buying one, they try to update it, and can't because it is a fake. I would recommend trying to update soon after buying one. If it can't be updated, return it before it can't be returned.

It is beyond me why iCarsoft continues to offer the MB II after releasing the MB V2.0. They are both listed for almost the same price on Amazon. This kind of turned me off to iCarsoft for a while, but when I looked at other brands, such as Autel, the information on their websites is no better. And since the reviews are very positive for the iCarsoft scanners, I'm going with one.

OK, so the iCarsoft CR Pro will do ABS bleeding and all? I know it's expensive but it seems like the best choice for me and it'll work for everything I have in the future as well.

Can't find any info for this scanner in regards to the DPF level reading.
Thank you in advance.

If you read the reviews on Amazon, it claims it can service DPF. It's funny how Amazon has it for $70, but they offer $10 off or 15% off. If you do the math, the 15% off is slightly cheaper. Still more than Walmart though. If you get it on Amazon and don't like it, at least it's easy to return.

Most likely i will order it from Walmart but only if it reads the DPF level. Otherwise, my 10yo ELM327 works just fine, altho its been a while since I used it last time.

I had no need to scan my E250 BT for long time, so no experience yet.
Walmart has hassle-free returns as well. You can drop it off at local place, or they will send you prepaid shipping label.
With DPF servicing the trick is that DPF only equipped system and DPF + DEF system require quite different procedure.
1st can have stationary forced regeneration, when 2nd require driving, Systems changed at different times in different models and different destination, what open whole can of warms with descriptions.

I’m a do-it-yourselfer, relatively new to Mercedes, and also looking to purchase a diagnostic tool. I have/use the excellent Ross Tech Vag-com for my Audi and VW. At this point, I don’t know if a scanner like iCarsoft or the more complex Xentry system is the direction I’ll take.
In the direction of Xentry (hopefully I’m using this term correctly), can someone enlighten me on the meaning of these various words/acronyms: Xentry, DAS, XDOS, Vediamo, SCN, SDS, WIS, Star, etc. Throughout the forum, these terms seem to be used interchangeably; but they also appear to perhaps be other systems or subsystems. Help please!
I have done some unsuccessful searching for pmercury but since I’m not even sure what approach I want, I haven’t pursued vigorously.
One requirement I have and the only current issue with my GL350 is, when driving through rain, the Distronic and Blind Spot Assist functions stop working until the car dries out. I’m hoping for a diagnostic tool that will identify which one of the numerous sensors fails when wet.

I'm having hard time still with a good scanner for my E250 Bluetec sedans. I want to be able to get into a good level of detail. For example, my high end servicer in Maine could not diagnose my problem down to the faulty EGR valve I had to take it to the dealer for that. I also want to be able to do a manual DPF regeneration on my own if necessary. The car in Maine is about 45 minutes from the Mercedes dealer plus we all know what they will charge for what might be a pretty simple fix.
