How can I tell which map version I have? And how can I relate that to which year that version is? How often do map updates come out?
My build sheet shows code 502 - 3 years free map updates. I'm wondering if it the maps were ever updated... And if they weren't, if I can get the dealer to update to the last update possible under the 3 free years...

Click on Navi up in the left hand corner of your Nav screen, then scroll to the bottom to map version, click on it and it will pull up what version you have. I updated mine through this website, mbnavupdate.com. The dealership wanted over $500 to update maps. I paid $125 through the website I listed. You can either have them send you a USB with the most current map for your vehicle or they will send the file through email and you download to a USB stick for $100.
If you choose the path i took, you just put the USB stick in your USB port in your center console with the engine running. It took about 20 minutes to complete for me but I have read it can take longer.
The 3-year update program began with the date the car was first placed in service (original owner). It's a 3-year program, with up to 3 updates during the term. The program was transferrable to subsequent owners within the 3-year period.
However, I seriously doubt any cars through 2016 will qualify for the free updates. If your dealer does it for you it will be a good will service. I would think of spending some money with the dealer in order to ask for a gratis update at the same time. Dealers don't like spending 3-hours (they claim) for this update without getting money from MBUSA.
I had mine upgaded in late 2018 with a couple months left on the 3-year program. Keep in mind that map updates have to be compatible with the hardware version of Comand. So, I may be wrong but believe the last version for the 2016 cars was...
Took me a bit to find it but I eventually did. Apparently the map software was never updated. I'm on 2015/2016 (v4.0). Bummed. Going to talk to my SA about that, but not holding my breath. I'll eventually go with mbnavupdate.com. They had my car all day, 9am~5pm, a week ago. When I walked back into the service bay the 2 service tech's wer basically just scratchnig their heads. I'm thinking MBUSA was footing the bill, but could be wrong. Going back on Thursday again. 5 hours of driving for me each time. I'm thinking some good will is due?
Yep not holding my breath but am going to ask. As part of negotiations I did ask if all recalls/TSBs/updates/etc. were performed and got an affirmative.
I rely on my Waze app. MB and navigation are hard for me to use in the same sentence
I haven't used the MB Nav much yet, we shall see... If/when I get CarPlay I'll probably wind up using Google Maps. I remember using Waze for a while but can't remember why I stopped using it.
Google owns Waze now and they are very similar in navigation and road warnings, etc. Either is so much better than the MB Nav. The voice integration with the Mercedes product is a complete joke and cannot recognize the simplest of requests, no matter how much you practice with it. I bailed long ago.

I use the "Send2Benz" function in the Mercedes Me app to send complete addresses to the Nav system. I works perfectly.
Does the Send2Benz feature work even after the mbrace trial period is up? I am not planning to subscribe. They tried to sell me on it by saying "well we can recover it if the car is stolen." Dude if the car is stolen they can keep it, I don't want it back!
2016 E350 Sport; Mom Wrecked the 2008 E350; sold the 2002 C320
My mbrace app sucks eggs - the only thing it seems good for is finding my car
When I bought my car in October I took it in for the firmware update and a map update. They updated the firmware and the Xentry report said 2020 map available for order but they didn't update it - I'm still on the 2016 version

Unlike the 3-year map update program, the mbrace trial lasts 5-years. I'm not convinced that MBUSA is efficient at removing eligibility once trials end, as it took them a year to remove my "Tele-Aid" trial on my C320. I'd sign up for it and use it to see.

My smart phone is 5 years old, and has the earliest version of Android compatible with Android Auto. So, in theory, it should barely work with Mercedes Me. However, the Mercedes Me app works quite well. I unlock and lock the car all the time (I forget whether I have alot). Send2Benz works a peach as I've noted. and it has even found my car on the 3rd floor of a 5-floor garage, too.
I did sign up for the trial, so all is active for now. That these cars don't remote start from the app is absurd. It clearly lists the ability in the build code for these cars as J8A. Yet it is impossible to enable. That would make me subscribe to the connect services. However, for lock/unlock and flash the lights - no thank you.

I'd rather be making tracks while the car warms up than wasting gas while a bagel browns in the toaster. Both of my MBs start to generate cabin heat within a block or two down the road, so remote start means little to me, even though mine has the J8A build code, too.
Try the Send2Benz feature. On your cell phone in the app, you directly enter addresses, or well-known destination POIs and it will find the address for you. Send. When you get in the car and start engine, within a few seconds, the Comand screen will display the address sent, and ask you to press "OK" to start route guidance. (No need to enter addresses manually) You will like it.

Oh I’m sure I will. Anything is better than the dumpster fire that is trying to enter a destination in COMAND.
Anyone have insight on how to get the send2benz to work on a 2010 model? It never works for me. I do the send2benz and then when I get in my car and start it, I press the i button and it dials out to the customer service without showing the address on the command screen.
