E350 2010 Smoking Serpentine belt smoking
Hi guys,
hoping someone can help here. I have a 2010 E350 Few nights ago as I was driving home the car shredded the belt, today I have changed the belt the top pulley and the tensioner.
When starting the car again the belt is smoking everything seems to be running fine just a lot of smoke and the smell of burning rubber. I can’t see exactly where the cause is coming from
Hoping someone can help
thanks

+1 - one of the components the belt drives or idler pulleys is locked up or it's rubbing somewhere for some reason.

The slipping belt will get frozen pulley hot, so infrared thermometer will pinpoint it in few seconds.

Could be one of the other components like the alternator or compressor. You should have checked for play when you had the belt off. Normally you'd replace both pulleys and the tensioner when doing the belt. Last time my alternator went out, it burned up, but it was a burnt electrical smell not rubber. You may have also missed a washer when replacing the pulleys.

Video file coming in too large, any suggestions how to attached the Video?? Smoke is coming from under the oil filter you can see on the Passenger side (UK Spec), I believe these to be AC & Water pump?

More than likely, if you shreadded the old belt, there is part of that old belt somewhere in one or more of the pulleys. Take the new belt off, make sure it's not damaged, then get a good light a mirror and find all the old belt pieces and remove them.

Checked earlier that was exactly the problem, parts of the old belt were stuck in behind the water tank all removed now and car going 100% thanks
