Harmon Kardon Amplifier

Does anyone know if the H/K amplifiers are vin coded, or will need a star computer to reset?

I’ve been having an issue where the front left channel will intermittently fade out at low volumes only to come back on once I raise the volume. Issue came up while car was under warranty and the dealer replaced the amp which seemed to work for 2 years but now it’s happening again.

It does not seem to be related to water issues as that whole rear compartment beside the amp is bone dry with so signs of water damage.

I’ve seen a few used units on eBay and could attempt the swap myself, but am worried an Indy will need to code the amp.

Thanks!

Not VIN coded more times than not plug & play no way of confirming until unit is installed. Compatible part #s: current 2129006226 and previous 2129005213.

Finally got around to installing the used amplifier I bought on eBay from a wrecked w212, works great! Thanks konigstiger for the instructions!

The one I pulled out looked brand new with no evidence of water intrusion or corroded terminals. The whole amplifier area back there looked dry with no water stains. There was even a silica packet underneath the amplifier, probably placed by dealer when it was replaced originally.

Any ideas as to why this amplifier would fail in the same way as the original? Mine failed by having the LF channel intermittently fade out until I raised the volume.
