W212 E250 4MATIC
Keyless GO function problem.
Hello. I am Korean and I am not good at English. Please understand.
my car spec : W212 14y 150,000km E250CDI 4Matic
It does not unlock my car's door. My car can be opened and locked with a stick key. The button does not start. The phrase "Pull out the button and insert the key" is displayed. Only the key must be inserted and turned to start.
What is the problem?
*The key battery is replaced with a new one.

There is a little red light on the key fob that should light up when you press the button. Does it? It's possible you have a dead battery in the key or put it in wrong. Did you test the voltage of the key battery? Key fob could also be bad, but you'd have to try the other key unless you just have one. There's also many components to keyless go and the antenna in the car could be bad, you'd have to have it scanned for MB specific codes to see if you have any keyless go error codes. There's many scanners out there that will scan for MB specific codes, a regular code scanner only does engine and emissions codes.

Has Keyless Go worked in the past? What is the VIN?

I'm having the same issue with my wife's new-to-us 2014 E550. The keyless go worked perfectly for a few weeks after we purchased the car, then I noticed it only worked intermittently. A few days later and the keyless go function, as well as the buttons on the key fob no longer work (the red light blinks when each button is pressed). I also installed a new battery, as well as tried a known working battery from my W220 fob. I connected the STAR diagnostics and the scanner can't connect to the keyless go module. Both the keyless go fuse and antenna amplifier fuses are good.
We only have one key fob, so there's a small chance the fob is bad (but it still starts the car if you remove the start button and insert the key as instructed by the dash). My wife wants another key for the car, so I'm thinking the best plan of action is to go to a MB dealer for a new key, see if that key restores function, and if not, replace the keyless go module (since it seems to be the place where the diagnostic scanner and key fob issues would cross paths). Let me know what you guys think. This is definitely not a good introduction to Mercedes for my wife.

I think you are on the right path. Notwithstanding that having two keys is important you may find that there is indeed an issue with the keyless go proper function. This may be hard to sort without the dealer’s assistance. Could be just a bad key as you say also. I hate when cars get transferred to a new owner and keys are “lost”. These keys can be $350-450 each.

Luckily we have a decent MB dealer locally, so I'm hoping this won't be too much of an adventure. I'm curious if anyone else has tried to go to the keyless go control unit in STAR and establish a connection. There were two identical menu options, and neither would connect. Of course, the other 40+ control modules connected without issue, so I think the CAN network in general is OK.
We were planning to order a second key anyway, but of course the title still isn't here due to backlogs in MN and IL. I'll call the MB dealer and see if the title transfer paperwork is sufficient to order a new key.
How do you like your E550? Ours is red with an intermediate option package. I'd love to replace my W220 S600 with a W212 some day, though I'll certainly miss my soft close doors!

I’m sure you’ll get it sorted quickly, since it just failed. Can’t be anything too serious. These E550’s are fantastic cars. Go like stink and get great gas mileage as well. I’ve had this one for 4 years now and before that I had the naturally aspirated version. Amazing Goldilocks car for me. This one has just about every option offered in 2014 and I couldn’t imagine ever selling it. I have never seen an E550 in red, so post up some photos!

You will miss many more things, the E Class is a big step down. I know that 12 cylinder, air suspension and the 220 in general can have issues, but it was the best Benz ever for us, my 221 wasn't as nice and the 212's aren't even close. Sounds like an Ignition module malfunction to me, they did have issues, but I'm guessing, the dealer is the only place to get a replacement key, so you're there anyway. The E550 is definitely the best E Class to get.

I think it would look better if it was laid out like an S class with the hood star and a clean grille. Mercedes got a little excited with their branding on this one. One thing I could never figure out is why an E55 commands such a premium in the used market vs an S55. The S class really has the whole "sedan" thing figured out.

The W220 really has been amazing. I thought I could probably keep it on the road for a year and gain a new driving experience when I decided to buy it. 6 years and ~60K miles later and I don't know when I'll ever get rid of this car. Besides the coil packs and ABC accumulators/ride height sensors, the car has been no less reliable than any other car its age. The hydraulic suspension is a game-changer, and the V12 is well worth the coil pack tax. It's my winter car, but I find myself driving it in the summer since the driving experience is so good. It's unbelievable that a car this size can run a 12.4 quarter mile, be competitive with a BMW 3 series in an auto-x, and have the best possible driving experience in such an old chassis (1997).
Or even 11.6 with the proper motivation and tuning!

Apparently few people share our sentiment. The hood ornament is disappearing, at least in the US - not sure about elsewhere. It is no longer available on the W205 or the W213 at all.

For sure. I actually just hit a deer with my 2016 E350, which is your cars twin in terms of appearance (minus the hood star, of course). I explored having them replace the front fascia with the luxury package, but it did not work out - it was going to add significant out of pocket costs for me. But had it been low out of pocket, I would have done it. All of my other Mercedes have had luxury grilles with the hood ornament. If they didn't come that way, I converted them (in the case of both my W204s). I expected to do the same with my W212 and was really disappointed to learn that it was no longer such an easy job as it was back in 2013 and before. In these cars the bumper and grille are riveted together - and you can change the grille, but you can't go to the luxury grille because there is a body colored strip between the chrome and the hood. The luxury grille is completely different.
Apparently few people share our sentiment. The hood ornament is disappearing, at least in the US - not sure about elsewhere. It is no longer available on the W205 or the W213 at all.

They obviously lack sophistication and taste! LOL. We had a rash of theft of these in Cleveland for years, I lost three on my "93 and two still, years later on my '03 sometimes the hood got damaged in this process and people got tired of replacing them or more likely having them replaced. They would just grab them, twist and pull, for a while {years} at my country club all the Benz's were sans emblem. I believe this same rash of hood ornament theft prompted Bentley and RR to make them retract into the hood when parked and locked! No-one in Palm Beach had any peace symbols either during this time.

I never had a problem with theft.. I thought this was something from the early 90s? The ones I've had did not appear they were going to come off without a fight.

Wellpers, I have a 6 cu ft box upstairs FULL of orphaned upright stars. No base, just the tristars. Must be 750+ of them. I tried at one time to sell them off for others uses, but apparently the star means something only when attached to a car... LOL

My box of Tristars are not broken. They are pristinely disassembled.

Diagnostic Results
I ran some diagnostic tests tonight and the results are interesting. The Quick Test revealed the backup camera can't connect to the ignition module (EZS), and the keyless go module isn't responding to the instrument cluster. Xentry can't connect to the keyless go module, but it can connect to the ignition module (EZS). However, if I try to test the transmitter (key), the EZS stops responding, though I'm not sure how the test is even possible with only one key fob (the first step is to remove the key from the ignition, which of course breaks the connection between Xentry and the EZS). If I don't turn off the ignition and press the buttons on the fob, no counts are displayed in Xentry and after a while it loses connection.
