Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. My W204 C300 was totaled a few years back when my girlfriend got rear ended on the highway. Got a E89 Z4 after that and while it was a fun lil car to drive, I missed being in a Mercedes.
Saturday I drove down to NJ to pickup a 2011 E550, white exterior/black interior. I’ll post some pictures after work today.
A few things I noticed after I got the car was:
•ESC Inoperable error a few of the time where I put the pedal down hard (I’ve read on here that this is due to the throttle pedal/throttle pedal sensor and that changing this out is an easy fix).
•Switching between S and E seem to not be much different (S shifts later I believe but there’s still minimal acceleration unless I put it to the floor, I assume a tune will help with this.
•When I turn on my highbeams, only the right side turns on, wasn’t sure if the was something to do with Actuve High Beam Assist or if one on the lights is faulty.
The tint on this car is also so dark there is no way it will pass a MA inspection with the new regulations over the past few years. Does anyone know of a shop that can still pass an inspection with something like this? Changing out the tint would be the next option if getting a pass with it is absolutely impossible, I’d just like to keep it if possible.
I also got a 2 year/26k mile warranty through GWC, not sure if anyone has any experience with them and if they’re any good or not.
I had my buddy run a scan because the check engine light came on, I’ve attached the screenshots of the codes, some say not present so I’m not too worried about those ones, the airmatic one is the one that caught my eye as I’m not sure if what’s listed is a big deal or easy fix.
I have dealt with GWC from a service writers point.
That being said, if you do a google search on your third party warranty and the company you have does not pop up first....its the same as every other 3rd out there. Do your homework and read the fine print on coverage, it will releive some anger later.
Be weary. They are great for engine replacement and transmissions, albeit always used units with little or no paperwork to back up history. Never disclose a "tune", never put a company decal on it, stay away from aftermarket wheels. Keep her as close to factory as possible. They will send out an adjuster is repair estimate exceeds 700-1000. If they findcanythung they deem was a contributing factor to failure.. .pry open the leather. I have fought countless times with 3rd party warranty on behalf of the customer. I have not had any major issue with GWC. I can tell you make sure electrical is included in your package tier. If you ever need help navigating a concern with them, please reach out. I would be happy to look over the contract and tell you what is most likely covered.

Thanks for the insight into working with them. Since I picked up the car relatively cheap and only financed a small portion I was fine with the dealer adding the warranty to the vehicle. I was in a pinch for a vehicle so I was looking to close on a deal relatively quickly and the added ~$1,600 seemed like a solid deal considering. I have read some
horror stories online about dealing with them after getting around to looking into it more, but as you mentioned most of these horror stories could have been avoided if the fine print was read and understood correctly. I have done a few look-throughs in the contract and have noticed a few things and how they work around certain services but make it harder to understand.
I had an MB dealership look at my car yesterday, and they said my front half shaft / front half of my drive shaft is slightly seized up (I forgot how he worded it but I’m pretty sure I understand what he meant) which the car was making a whirring noise up front at low speeds and cut in and out, but had no impact on driveability. Other than that I had a small leak on rear centerfuge and transmission pan, both of which I had them do, as well as the shaft being done on Friday.
They said fixing the leak would stop the ESC Inop error from appearing, but I still got the code to pop afterwards. I’ve read that changing the throttle pedal sensor fixes this so I’m going to try that next. Other than that they rated my tire tread a 4 and said rear brakes will need to replaced near future, but otherwise the cars mint.
I will want to do some modifications to the vehicle, i will most certainly get wheels at some point after winter, so that’s where I’m contemplating canceling the warranty. I know buying a premium car comes with premium repair costs, so I’m prepared to deal with any issues the car gives me. I’ll shoot you a DM so you can look over the contract like you said to give me a better idea of what is most likely covered in it, I’m pretty sure it’s their lowest tiered coverage.

thanks again for the insight!
Not a problem. You cannot cancel their service nor get a refund. Interesting caveat.
Is there any adverse affects on anything from using one of these? I’m not really familiar with the product.[/
It will eliminate the throttle lag that you will learn to dislike on this car.
No ill effects from it at all. I have had it for years now. Makes the car feel faster at starts and much more enjoyable to drive.
Great thanks for the info! I just looked it up and it seems to be plug and play, is this something I could easily install myself or would you advise having a shop install? I just don’t want to take apart any of the interior pieces myself as I have had bad luck with that in the past lol.
I did this to my 550 back in the day haha.......I still have these side markers too, lemme know and they're yours gratis I recently sold these particular wheels to a forum member here too

wow nice! I actually dig the orange/black it’s really unique and I think looks good on this car, did you have it painted or wrapped?
I’ll definitely take them, thanks a lot! I’ll shoot you a PM with my address, Let me know how much shipping is and I’ll shoot you a venmo or something!
One of the first things I was going to do was get the stock orange ones replaced., so that will take care of that checkbox. I have my new grille and black emblems arriving soon as well . I plan on finishing off the few items on exterior like a CF lip/diffuser/spoiler. I want to find a used exhaust system from a 10’ or 11’ e63 but my scouring of the internet has returned no results yet, so I’ll keep an eye on the marketplace here in case one pops up!
