Stuff inside spare wheel well. What is that? Please help!

Have a 2010 w212 e350 for a year and love it so much.
Just found an electrical stuff inside the spare wheel well (photo below). Anyone know what is that? Please help. Thanks.
Its referred to as the tailgate locking element... it pulls the trunk fully closed. When you normally close the trunk (not slamming), it'll catch then automatically close the rest of the way. More info on mechanism here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...e-tonight.html
