How convert to Facelift Headlights?

I’m looking at doing a facelift conversion. The bumpers and bonnet are pretty straight forward. The difficult part seems to be getting the lights to work.

From what I understand you need an adapter to plug the new lights in and then you need to program the front and rear SAM. What would you need to use the program (STAR, Xentry?)them and are there any other mods you’d need to make?

Facelift Headlights mean Facelift Taillights (and all that goes with that)...

Moneywise, you'd be better off selling your 2011 and buying a real facelift 2014-2016.

Actually not for me that’s the reason why I want to do the conversion. Yeah I’ll be doing both the facelift headlights and taillights

@EuroDriverSD has several threads on this where he updated his facelift W212 to the full LED setup. You need deep pockets, connections, and patience. This will not be simple.

I’ve seen some of his posts. They’re not quite the same as I wouldn’t need all the auto levelling sensors etc. I found a company that sells a kit with the 2 adapters and does the programming remotely. It seems quite expensive at around $900

$900 for the connectors and programming, plus the additional money for the lights? That sounds like a bargain actually. Good luck!

Look up the MHH auto forum, they have members that will remote program/unlock features for a fee. You will however need a capable scanner setup (such as SDConnect) and teamviewer.

Or get a scanner setup and learn coding with vediamo yourself.

I would actually like to learn how to do it myself but I wasn’t sure what to use etc. I can program already in other languages. Vediamo is the engineering programming software as far as I know? Is there any other programs I’d need?

This has got to be close to a 12-14k dollar conversion {250k Rand} all in, how could that possibly be cheaper than buying a '14-'16 ? Here in the US you could upgrade for far less to the newer model and have all the features and none of the what must be monumental headaches? I am aware there's been a lot going on in SA lately, Just I guess wondering...

The W212 I’m looking at getting has a damaged bumper and lights and possibly bonnet. So I’ll have to get those parts anyway and as well get the facelift ones and just complete the rear at the same time.

Ahh, I understand, I also hear the rear valance and taillights are a little different, should be interesting!

yeah the rear bumper and taillights have to be changed as well. One rear light on the car looks like it has a crack so might as well just get 2 facelift ones and then just the rear bumper. I’m looking at used parts as I’ll be repainting the bumpers and if I can find cracked headlights I’ll replace the lens so they’ll look like new anyway. Are there any aftermarket headlights and taillights?

Yes, China makes copies of everything, I remember a thread on here somewhere about guy who did this, and I seem to remember the taillights looked the same but they were. actually bigger or smaller, something that made them not a direct fit. If you search, you should find that thread. Best of luck, I and others will be interested in how it goes! I am certainly not an expert body man, but I am aware there were small and large changes every year, especially the facelift for '14-16

facelift taillights don't fill the prefacelift bumper as there is a small gap at the bottom where the light should meet up with the bumper. Someone makes filler panels, of at least did at some point, but I have no idea who. If you want to upgrade, then do the rear lights and bumper, there are some really nice C/F diffusers for the newer bumper that do not cost a lot of money.

The rear taillights won't plug/play as the pre-facelift has amber, separate turn signals and the facelift just uses the brake lights. This will be coding as well.

Also, don't buy aftermarket. The aftermarket taillights are really strange looking.. like a cartoonish version of the real thing. The real things aren't that expensive.

Aftermarket headlights that look like the facelift ones are only in appearance. They don't have any functionality and they also don't have near the light output.
