I just realized from the screenshot you sent before that you have a vgs4 tranny, so clutched not torqued (like AMG's), so i think car with vgs4 2014 will get rev match with M mode, the 2012/2013 cars with vgs3 torqued will not get the rev match downshift.

I thought the 2014 had the same valve body as the AMG's, but they still have a torque converter.

I was saying that the 2014 m278 got the clutched (AMG) converter, not sure about valve body, because of that i think the 2014 one has the rev match,
anyone here with 2012/2013 has the rev match without TCU tune?

Manual mode does not do that.

TLDR: If there is not an "M" on the button, there is no manual mode.
Will your car stall with the M mode enabled if you let it drop below normal revs? With the paddle shifters it will automatically downshift and upshift even when the 'manual' mode is activated, and wont let you stall.

I have a 2012 coupe and have had zero issues with rev match on my car tuned. Although I have an exhaust as well. So I can actually hear it.

Wait, what? So my 2014 w/ M278 has the AMG transmission in it from the E63?

I'm definitely interested in getting M mode enabled and rev matched downshifts!

I will be honest with everyone, I have not seen a 2014 E550's transmission form the inside. So I don't know if it's clutched like the E63.

I one thing I can say for sure it's not the same part number as a 2012-2013 trans.

The part number is closer to the AMG one, and the fact that they don't sell a torque converter for the 2014 (sedan) 212-270-17-09 (E550) vs 212-270-18-09-90 (E63) indicates that it could be clutched.

One funny thing I found about the 2012-2013 E550 is that they use one revision of the S550's trans, the torque converter of an SL, and the drive plate of a E350.

2012-2014 E550 share the drive plate. The S550(2011) drive plate is the same drive plate as a 2014 E63/s.

Moral of the story, Mercedes grabs part from a cabinet, if it fits, and takes the abuse, it gets used.

2014 E550 W212. tonight I coded the manual mode as per amazing road TV guide on youtube. VGS4NAG2 for the 7g+. I found some conflicting info as reading this whether it works or not. For my car it 100% worked. M mode works and it blips the throttle. I feel like around ~2000, 2200 rpm it does blip it but more softly. but above 3000 it becomes more agressive like the videos. I feel like shifting up is slightly faster too? could be placebo though. I found this thread by googling and I hope down the road this may help somebody else too.

Do you have a link to the video?

There are many less expensive Mercs I'd like to buy, but not having a blipped downshift is a deal breaker, and then requires me to spend a lot of money on a later model AMG of some sort in order to get it.

DrivingForce: Curious why the blip downshift is a deal breaker? Maybe I'm missing something but I wouldn't even want it if free.

In spirited driving, especially during hard braking, you're going to want to downshift as you're braking so you're in the right gear already when you want to accelerate out of the curve. It also helps slow the car down with engine braking. Without it, you have to wait to downshift until you are about to start accelerating out of the curve, which would mean auto transmission "kick down" and a lag for the acceleration to kick in

The purpose of the blip is so that the downshifts during hard braking don't upset the balance of the car

My thoughts on this car.
2014 e550 vs the e63, i paid 23k cad for it with 97k km. A e63, 2014 face-lift are all a very solid 50k over twice as much before tax, so is it twice the car? Ehh... I have to pay taxes as well being in bc, (12%). The 4.7/6 gets decent fuel mileage but the 5.5 consumes more. The e550 I have is on bags, I love it. It's smooth in comfort then feels nice in sport mode, it's a joy to drive, but a heavy car. Handles well, rides great, and even stock, the power will give other cars a real run. On a cold morning my stock car did like 4.2s 0-60mph. It's shifting is not as fast or abrupt as the e63 due to the different torque converters. The Rev blip helps for sure. The power split is also different between this and the e63. But I have square wheels, tires, so I can rotate for even wear. Also the brakes I find are plenty strong, well e63 a brake job is much bigger money.

Im not sure why the used market in canada has the e63 at well off over double the cost. New i believe my car was 90k ish (fully loaded) and a e63 was about 130. So say 40% more brand new.

If i could of got a e63 for 35k id of done it but realistically this is a better all arpund choice.

I tuned mine now to a ecc canada stage 2 last fall havent driven it yet as its parked for winter but that brings it up into the e63 power territory at approx 570 hp/700 ft #. Cost of tune with tax was about $1800.

here's a video off youtube of the rev blips..

If eng braking, you now have to wait for rpms to come down before you get it. For the best gear in a turn, you have to do that yourself either way, and you don't have to wait.
The only way balance could be upset is if you lose traction, so you'd need to be at max G's, in a RWD car, with a harsh shifting trans and unable to control the throttle yourself. Seems like a pretty rare set of conditions. If so, you'd need a trans tune to get it that harsh and these trans tune guys can, apparently, program matching in, so you're good? I like the one where it only works in manual mode, that way it wouldn't be bugging me, but would prefer an On/Off switch.

Perhaps it's like like pops and bangs? Race cars do it so people want it? Want more tickets maybe :o Similar to loud exhaust, which people just had to have when I was kid, and apparently still do... Decades ago people would lift the rear of the car because drag cars had that look. Or lift trucks because, well, I don't know why, but for 99.99% of people, in either case, it only degraded performance.
So unless there is a valid reason I'm still unaware of, which I doubt, I'll pass. I certainly wouldn't let it stop you from getting a car you want.

Octan3: You said Canada, then said you had square wheels and tires. I literally laughed out loud. Thanks buddy
I'd love to hear how it performs after that tune. You have a way to measure acceleration?

I forgot to say EH after square lol. it'll probably be insured 3rd week of april then I should know how it is. ECC canada and the usa one are not associated, the numbers posted by the canadian one is far greater, even the stage 1. but reading online like fb and by many, the canadian shop is highly regarded and they dyno run and tune everything. The posted results from the stage 2 on a dyno was something like 510WHP and 628?ft# of torque. Tune claims like 570/690ft# crank.

The E550 is a nice car for the price.

The E550 is nice for the $. I liked the CLK before it, and my C207 is basically the replacement, just wish it was lighter.
It took me years to find one I wanted, but the bass turds took the console shifter in '14 >: | Paddles are fine as a toy accessory, but not a replacement.
Please post when it's on the road. I'd love to see a 1/4 mile run, if possible.

Shoot me a PM sometime like may ish or beyond for my feedback as I may forget.

there is no drag strip here or near me so I may not be able to do that, I don't have an official way to time 0-60 but the way I did it before was basically recording a video then checking time stamp. Looking up on "drag times" website where some people post times I'd guess the low 12 second though but I really have no idea lol.

I'll have to remember as well :p
I have a Dragy, which I do not trust for 0-60, but people say it checks out pretty well for the 1/4. Still, it's better than a video camera. If you ever consider a Dragy, I suppose I'd wait until the next gen comes out because when I complained to them about the BS 0-60 #'s they said the next model will have an accelerometer to fix that. The question is, will it come out soon, in years, maybe never?
Your awd and a tune will no doubt beat me to 60, but after that it would be interesting. I'd love to hit a track and see where I end up on that website, but the nearest track is too far away.
I'm sure you'd hit <12.5 with that super tune.

Ah right I also was using a general but highly rated android app for my 0-60 times haha. It has been so long since I have done it I totally forgot, I sware its been 2 years now. If I remember right, it worked good too. Dragy would be nice but I can't justify buying into it for like a few pulls lol.

you can post your own drag slips on that site, I believe its just a user created database and you put up what you've done to attain such results.

I've never heard of any m278 car that has rev-matching downshift capabilities...
