Throttle body cleaning

In sr Leigh's you tube on cleaning the throttle body , the last thing he does is reset the throttle adaptation angle . Is this step necessary. I can do the cleaning but do not have the laptop program, cable or software to do it the way he shows in video

I have done this job on old volvos and fords there was no such thing as electronic reset of throttle angles. I don't want to create a problem I do not have. If you know what I mean.

Also, does the ecu reset procedure for the shift points and driving style (key on,pedal down, key off, release) reset the throttle position as well.?

Not one response! I saw long discussions on windshield washing solvent, car washing and wheels BUT mechanical inquiries get nothing.!

You're probably asking a question that we can't answer. I know the throttle reset trick with the ignition and gas peddle, but I have no idea what it's moving around or if it's just a reset of the memory in the position sensor. Haven't a clue - but know it works to make me happy.

I thought the throttle body cleanout would be a good idea ..but i don't want to mess up anything that is currently working

I'll bet that old volvos and fords don't have fly-by-wire throttle bodies.
If Sr. Leigh has a video that you trust and are willing to follow to clean your throttle body, why not see it through to the end? A $150 icarsoft mb2 scanner can, I believe, do the adaptation you refer to. It'll do a lot more too.

I cleaned the throttle body on my old W211 once. Then I had to have the car towed to the shop, pay to replace it and pay for it to be programmed to the car. It wasn't cheap. My $0.02 is if it ain't broke, don't fix it
