I have a late 2016 USA W212. Does anyone know whether the correct head for Android Auto was installed in the last runs of this model? I love Garmin, but am accustomed to lifetime maps from Garmin. Android Auto would be a good replacement. Much more function when traveling, as well.

Anyone have knowledge of this?

 

A 2016 has the right hardware to enable Apple CarPlay and Android AUto via USB port 2, but its not enabled from the factory because it wasn't a 'feature' until 2017.

you first need to get a dealer to flash the LATEST software on your HG5.1 head unit, and the rest of the associated modules, THEN you need to get Vladimir's AA/Carplay actuator from EBay.

yeah, that one too.

one thing those threads do NOT make clear. just because you have firmware High_CY15_9 does *NOT* mean you have the latest that you need. Mine had High_CY15_9 but still needed updating and my build date was 20160311.... If you send your VIN to Vladimir on fleabay, he can verify if you have the right firmware or not because he has access to Mercedes internal database.
