I researched this when I got my W212 and whoever told you it is impossible is pretty close. There are thousands in wiring harness replacements, coding, and of course the Xenon headlights are like $2K each (I'm basing that on my 335d). The Morimoto LEDs (a step or two up from Chinese junk) are decenet and have served me for 2+ years.

critical in any lighting system, and especially ones with upgraded bulbs, is the condition of the outer surface of the light.... if the headlight covers are hazy or yellowed, brighter low beams will cause MORE glare.

Thanks, paid $100 to change the light bulb

Thanks for the tips. I ended up paying the $100 to change the one light bulb. They will need to remove the front driver-side tire and fender to access the low beam light. What a joy. There is a special place in purgatory for the engineers who designed this.

I would 100% disagree with putting hid bulbs in a halogen projector. You will not get the proper light ouput because the projector bowl was not designed for an HID bulb. If you are going to do it, at least do a proper projector retrofit and use the correct parts. That's the whole point of doing better lighting. Not slapping in garbage into optics that were designed for it.

the better new LED bulbs, however, work quite well. I've used them in both projectors and bucket reflectors with very good results, clean low beam patterns. For example, these fit my '02 F250 superduty pickup...

hi all, reopening this thread as i seem to have been snookered by the ol' halogens in hid projector trick. can anyone share the latest on pre facelift hid/xenon/LED options?
thanks in adv.
edit upon further review its clear that i have hid but they are a bit weak, perhaps i am spoiled by modern leds in my other vehicles.
getting a good detailing next week and will reassess after outer lamps are worked on a bit.
whats the latest on mod from existing hid to better?

well, for future browsers, upon FURTHER further review, i do have halogens in the hid projector.
replaced with autoix LED's and they do trigger a warning upon startup and that can be cancelled with the "return" button. nbd.
they look better in daytime but just picked the car up and will check in night conditions. cheers.

Wow, my HID's are way better than my son's LED's in his 2015 E maybe yours need adjusting, in fact my HID's in my '13 are better than the LED's in my '24 GLS580, especially the brights

Do you have Auto high beams with turning lamps and headlight washers?

ALL US model Mercedess have an extensive set of options. Base model Mercedes have hand crank windows, cloth non-power seats, etc etc. Take a look at the 'data card' for your car, should be in with the owners manual, will be a long list of 3-4 digit codes, those are all options.
