Does anyone here know the part # for the engine cover emblem (star) for a 2012 E350? Thanks in advance.

MB does not offer star for gas engine cover, try 2037580058 for diesel cover. Some vendors may list part # as trunk emblem. See photo with measurement.

Perhaps, ours is about 3" square ... I'll need to check it closely tomorrow.

Just FYI

I had the star missing and could have got the hood badge and glue it in like I did on my E550 but I also had the push clip broken off in the narrow front part of the cover so I decided to get a new cover from the dealer as fixing both issues would be a project.

Ordered yesterday for $129 + tax.

WOW, there are too many threads here about missing engine cover emblems...

I guess I need to inspect under the hood to see that the star is there... and then superglue it in place to make it stay there...

Edit: Whew, mine is still there. Now to find that superglue and a toothpick...

Superglue is useless for this. A good fix is to grind the ends of the three pegs under the cover and remove the star. Then open the holes slightly on the cover and then use good 2-part epoxy in the holes with the pegs. When you open the holes you get epoxy all around the pegs and then when you make a “blob” of the epoxy underside between the pegs/holes the star will not come out by itself.

Problem with the way mb makes these is they melt the ends of the pegs under the cover so the pegs mushroom and won’t fit thru the holes so the star is fixed in place but the melt ends of the pegs break off due to engine vibration and the star is free to fall off.

Good epoxy won’t break and even if the blob of it did come off there would still be epoxy in the holes holding the star in place.

yeah, cyanoacrylate (superglue) breaks down rather quickly with heat, and the engine compartment is not a good place for it.

I removed the cover, and see it matches your description. Too bad MB got cheap and didn't use at least one metal starlock washer on the pegs.

The problem with my previous emblem wasn't that it fell off, but that it fell apart. I'm assuming heat cycling eventually weakened it and it ended up in several pieces.

I had the silver first come off of the plastic but then suddenly there were just three holes where the star used to be.

Examining my engine cover on the underside, there is a rectangular tab on the star that sticks through the cover at the 12 o'clock star point. Thinking I could squeeze some epoxy into the area behind the tab, I gently pushed the tab in -- slightly -- and the star instantly popped off completely. Boiiingg!

The three pegs at the center of the star are about 1/8" long... not enough to hold the star in place by themselves.

So, I will now enlarge the holes as Arrie suggested and apply the epoxy as recommended.

Emblem should come with 3 plastic fasteners but I agree with DFW replacing them with metal star washes may be best.

To clarify this before someone wastes their money, the star emblem on the engine cover (below Left) is far smaller than the emblem on the trunk. In reality, the emblem measures 60mm diameter (2-5/16"). The pegs on the engine cover star are a scant 2mm diameter (.080").

In short, the trunk star with it's delrin mounts are too big and will NOT replace the engine cover star on the E350 six cylinder engine cover shown in post #2.

Also, the engine cover star is much larger than the star in the center of the steering wheel. So, the steering wheel star will not fit, either.

EPC diesel info (only a portion of compatible models) that I based my suggestion on and I emphasized comparing measurement photo.

It appears we need someone with a DIESEL to measure the outside diameter of its star emblem.

The outside diameter of the Star Emblem on my 6cyl E350 is 60mm, no more. It comes from the engine cover depicted in post #2... which matches my engine cover exactly. The plastic pegs on the back of the emblem in post #2 are much fatter than the thin, 2mm pegs on my star. And these tiny pegs on my star are farther apart, as well.

Like I said in my earlier post I glued the hood badge that came with my star grille from 55Tech on the engine cover. It is a perfect fit. It may be a bit "rich" with all colors but it really looks good in that place.

That badge was way too big to fit on my hood and that is why I bought the hood badge from you.

I haven't seen the 55tech hood badge, but assume it is the same size (58mm) as any standard flat hood badge. The size (58mm v. 60mm) would be great for the engine cover. And a flat hood badge is a lot cheaper than buying a whole new engine cover (with the same weakness).

A picture is always welcome. I imagine it looks handsome on the engine cover. Good idea!

55Tech badge is original Mercedes Part. It was in a Mercedes parts box with Mercedes written all over it like their parts come packed in. Part no: A 129 888 01 16.

Below picture of it. Sorry the engine cover is so dirty but badge is clean.

that looks like the radiator grill badge off a 70s/80s Mercedes.
