Have been driving the past few days into Rogers Pass from Vancouver.
The first such trip in this car (2011 E550).
About 700 km (430 miles) in and I am very pleased with:
- smooth ride (on Comfort mode)
- handling on curves
- power to pass or go up hills easily
- good braking when in emergency situations
I have a cousin who used to travel all over the country purchasing cars/trucks at auto auctions to supply dealers in the PNW. He is a real car guy having owned and driven many, many cars. When I was looking for a new one, I asked him what to buy. Buy a Mercedes, he said, they are the BEST driving cars on the road. I think he is exactly correct.
Also in the Vancouver area. When the power was out even at night time, I went for a drive as the street lights were out too. Thought I could see the multi beams work and man it was magic. Haven't been to the mountains over there yet.
Today I experienced:
- the cruise control sets the speed you select ... then with a tap rounds to the nearest 10 kmph ... then another tap adds exactly 10 kmph.
- we played CDs today and the sound system is great
- the seat warmers and climate control are very good
- felt very safe on packed snow & black ice
Thanks for sharing your thoughts , the car needs a heavy wash later
LOL, my cars come home like that 90 days a year! I looked at that picture and said "just another winter in Cleveland!" I built a plant in Prince George, BC, drove up from Vancouver for five months, it's beautiful there.

The last of the mountain scenery- in the Rogers Pass We have seen about every aspect of late winter / early summer driving on this 2,600 km (1,600 mile) road trip so far. It was 19 degrees C (67 F) and subnet when we rolled into Penticton yesterday.
Time to stop for some wine tasting in the Naramata Bench region near Penticton
Total trip 1,760 Miles (2,832 Km).
mostly Highway driving through mountain passes.
You knew it was coming ...
2,543.8 Km (1,581 miles) since I started to track consumption ...
10.12 L/100 Km
27.9 miles/Imp Gallon
Not bad for a 5.5 Litre N/A Sedan
