Yep, trading everything down. House and cars. Retired in January ‘cause I basically had it. I was in a people business and realized I don’t really like people. Lol

There is a show called "Shipping Wars" on cable. Watch a few episodes, and you will learn what I learned at my dad's retail business 50-years ago... Customers are basically stupid, rude, selfish people.

Stupid, rude, and selfish basically sums it up. I worked in every major State in the country and it was the same everywhere I went.
45 years is long enough. I bought the TR8 and will live in the 80's for awhile.

we wanted a car that was as comfortable as our old Mercedes E wagon (w124), with the same level of utility. We tried to like a lot of different vehicles before landing on the W212. seats, ride, driving dynamics, room, everything about it was like they were thinking of us when they designed it. Lexus LS series came close, but the newer ones didn't have the ride quality of the old, and the older ones were, well, just too old. according to a couple different surveys I saw (consumer reports and I forget who else), the 2016 W212's had the lowest rate of major problems of any of the E class years. I have a good indie MB mechanic who's kept up with the new ones, has a xentry system.
and oh yeah, we're retired too, got out of that rat race a couple years /before/ covid.

I work in logistics and have the flexibility to work from home or from the office. I'm not driving the same amount as I used to.

Oh yes, I've seen that show many times and laugh at all of the predicaments these shippers get into, which I know is all staged. Still hilarious.

Awesome, I love it! Front air dam intact, wow! doors seem to fit and close correctly too! Brings back a lot of memories, My 1980 anniversary edition had the Bosch fuel injection, pretty sure it came that way, also a southern Kalifornia car.

Hey buddy, yes, the 3.5L all aluminum V8. Originally an FI car, but changed to a Holley, so no need for the Solex carb tools. This is the very last TR8 built in Solihull and they closed the factory the next day, so it has special provenance. Previous owner did a color change from Gold to a burnt orange. I have all of the original fuel injection parts to return to original, but it runs too well on the carb for me to go backwards. Original engine it was born with.

HOW is it not rusted. I was under the impression that rust had already set in while they were crossing the ocean for delivery. I saw these disintegrate right before my eyes while living in Chicago during the 80's.

Yes, every one in Cleveland the same, rotted away in front of your eyes, both my Triumph TR7's were SO-CAL cars. My 4 and 6's came from the rust belt, I had a credit line with Vicky-Brit and Moss that was mortgage- size!

This car has been kept well preserved and out of any foul weather. I cannot find rust anywhere. None at the wheel arches, rockers, or around the headlights, where my TR7 had it. I intend to keep it that way. Since I sold my Shelby GT350, I figured I would follow Carroll Shelbys mantra of small British car with a V8. Goes like Hell, as he often quipped.

Moss Motors used to sell a bumper snicker "The Parts Falling Off This Car are of the Finest British Manufacture" or something to that affect. I wanted to put one on our old TR-6.
Funny thing, the /good/ british mechanic we used to go to for tricky things like zenith carb rebuilds, and lever shock R&R, he drove a BRG TR8

So after the minimum commitment to the Volvo subscription, I've returned it. I grew to like most things about it, but the two issues I had with it were significant - the transmission programming is awful, and the 20" tires had a highway vibration that I didn't feel like fighting with anyone about.
We picked this car up last week:
Apparently less than 1,000 of these ever produced. My husband had to have a manual, otherwise we might have went with a W205 C300. But this car is actually the replacement for the Forte GT we have. I have ordered a truck, but until it arrives I'll be driving the Forte.
My truck as built and ordered:
2022 Maverick XLT hybrid w/Lux pack - found a dealer in IA willing to order it for me for 3% under invoice, putting it in a signed deal (insane in this market) and so it ended up being just a hair over $25k all in. Should get 40mpg. I wanted to be under $25k on whatever I bought, and this fit the bill perfectly. Could take 6-10 months for it to be built, though.

My Mom loved her Genesis with the 5 liter, I keep test driving the Volvo's as my Benz dealer sell them also, I'm not surprised you didn't keep it, my son didn't either, he just got the Lexus RX 350L. Nice to hear from you!

This XC40 was OK electronics wise. The new ones with Android Automotive OS.. what a dumpster fire. I don't even use an Android phone, I sure as hell am not going to drive one.

Yes, I would have to say Hyundai and Mazda have the most improved interiors recently, my brother owns the Jaguar/ Land Rover dealership in Akron-Canton, he tries hard to get me in a Jaguar or RR Evoque, I like the Evoque and obviously in this market the E350 is worth quite a lot, but I'm just not there yet. I keep holding out for the new E class, hoping it won't be as ugly inside as the current one!

Accelerate even with moderate intensity from a start, and the 1->2 and 2->3 upshifts take so long that the car has a huge loss of momentum during the gear change. So much so that the car itself will actually pitch forward as though you quickly jabbed the brake. Accelerate lightly to drive around this flaw and it is OK, but I shouldn't have to do this..

Yes - for the one payment, you get:
Decided to give this a try since we can change our mind after 4 months. Ordered a blue XC40 T5 R-Design on Wednesday. Got the VIN yesterday. Delivery expected in 1-2 weeks. They load them up.. the starting price of the XC is something like just under $34k but the subscription cars are built to about $47k. Every package offered is included, as is the standalone Harman/Kardon sound system.
- 15k miles a year or 1250 per month since you can return it after 4 months
- Insurance through Liberty Mutual
- Road hazard tire and wheel protection
- Maintenance
- $1000 waiver for "excess" wear - interior damage, large dents/dings, windshield damage, etc.

Rheeevare only two cars I truly trust. Mercedes’ and Volvo. We have two E classes His 2018 and Mine 2012 Cabriolet. Love them both. But I also adore my Volvo XC 60 just as much. Honestly it drives like a dream and honestly better than the Porsche Cayenne which I considered. I had two CLKs and a 2016 C300. But honestly even though it’s older I just adore this 2012 E350. Not sure what the popular opinion is but I just prefer this body style over the latest models which are so round. I can’t deny diamond white exterior and brownish red seats!

It's amazing how polarizing that swoop is. Obviously, MB did some market research (too late, apparently) and most buyers/potential buyers didn't like it. I do. The 2014+ W212's look the same as all of the few remaining newish cars on the road from the side IMO. I do prefer the 2014 interior and taillights though. The taillights, I 'fixed" on my pre-facelift.
