Our 2016 e63s just gone through this. All 4 camshaft adjustor solenoids (276-156-07-90) replaced at MB under extended warranty.
It is described on invoice for left intake camshaft solenoid required removal of drive belt, drain engine coolant and loosen (not remove) oil filter housing . Hope it helps you in your repair.

Wow the E63 looks the same as the E550. I did not have to remove any parts at all.

I wonder what is different.

I believe that you are correct to say that 2012 and 2014 are different.

2012 E550, driver's side. Oil filter housing is bottom right.
Notice the AC pipes don't have the bolted connection in the way.
But still tight and required a closed end gearwrench to access bolts.

Pittsburgh long reach hose pliers are very handy to pull the connector off the plug.

Correct you need a ratcheting wrench one. 8mm one I believe.

The only screw you can't easily access is the lower/bottom one, correct? If the oil filter is removed, will you have access for a wrench? Another option is to remove the front cylinder head cover with the magnets, as an assembly. Replace and reseal the assembly, then reinstall.

The hard pipe with a black hose is a water pipe. If you remove the rubber, then see if you can remove the metal portion, this will give more space.
I had the wiring harness pulled back- I took those pictures after I buttoned everything back up because I could not access that bottom bolt. I also had the oil filter housing removed.

If that's the driver's side, left solenoid when looking at the engine from the front of the car toward the back, then your car has a ton more space. It's weird how they changed things- might be the difference between the original style and facelift models.

Dont feel bad PA.
One day, I will need to lift up my entire engine for a simple plastic pipe of water heater, coz I worry it will aged and break. Target 2024.

If you mean an E8 ratcheting wrench, no. There isn't enough space to put it over the head of the bolt and if I could, there is no way to unscrew it and have clearance to remove the bolt or the wrench. It's that tight.

Are those A/C or oil cooler lines? Either way, looks like the oil filter housing might need to come out to access that lower bolt.

What’s throwing me is the appearance of a connection port for R134… then again, routing A/C thru the oil filter housing is just as bizarre.

I thought they were A/C lines because it looks like one of them has a charge port on it.

Oil filter housing and thermostat housing need to come out, and the charge air pipe. It's in the WIS attachments from konigstiger.

That's the passenger side- there's less clearance on the driver's side, but I will see if that works- I never thought to try a regular hex wrench on an E-Torx head. All else fails, I can pull all of the stuff as per the WIS.

It will work the were not too tight on my older motor. Do make sure you get new ones, as they will come with the loctite on the threads. Do not reuse the old ones.

The wrench hugs the bolt pretty good.
