These are the noise sources in our fuel tank.
01. When fuel tank LEFT side is empty enough, you are hearing the suction jet sound of air and fuel mix at the fuel filter bottom side. This is the loudest noise of the entire fuel tank.
02. If fuel level is also low at the RIGHT side where the pump is, discounting noise coming from the fuel filter jet suction, fuel pump can make noise too but its not so loud except if
it is aerated with air.... aka VERY LOW fuel level.
Your Hella fuel filter as new showed poor pressure performance, that is why the N118 fuel computer flag it as it does not fit the pressure table it stores in its memory.
Now as the fuel filter gets dirty, it will further reduce the pressure and by then you may feel it from poorer engine response.
If indeed apple to apple fuel level in tank is the same between Hella and MB genuine fuel filter and Hella make more noise, maybe Hella output for its jet suction is greater and hence more noise
and hence LESS pressure to the fuel filter element and to the engine and that is why DTC is flagged.
Take this lesson, its not always we win by using non genuine, sometimes we do...sometime we loose and get headache.
