ECU tune differences

Hello fellow E550 owners, I'm coming to post here because the c207 forums are not as lively as these.

Can any other fellow M278 E550 owners enlighten me on which is the best ECU tune for our cars? I've looked through Eurocharged, Wiestec, OEtuning (used them on my C300), and Renntech and the numbers for the tuned numbers range from 500 to 540 hp and from 580 to 715 TQ. (all stage 1 tunes)
Is there really this big of a difference for the tunes? Does Renntech really deliver 40hp and 125ft-lbs more torque than OE and such? I'm not trying to start an argument here i just want to know if these differences are really that big.

Thanks!

all the "reflash" or the "send in your ecu" tunes will mostly be the same. the only way to get a true "custom" tune is to have it done in house on a dyno. mines going to a local merc tuner here in mass once my driveshaft get replaced. i should be a bit more than the reflash stuff.

Just with a tune from Renntech, I went from being walked by 392 stock chargers to walking hard on them when they are FBO.

I would have gone thru Eurocharged as they are local, but their availability was/is (at the time I was looking) low.

Renntech also had a OBD2 tuner, which save me from having to send my ECU for a retune when a Mercedes dealer udpated the ECU without telling me.

There are a lot more options now, but finding a good experienced tuner is more important than selecting a platform since nowadays there are more OBD2 options.

I would not recommend the send your ECU option at all this point in the game. Word of mouth from actual owners, would be your best bet in choosing.

Renntech has been awesome for me.

Hand held tuner was my only option. The car is my daily and i cannot afford to not have my ECU lol
Part of the reason i posted is because i wanted to see if people have dynos or experience with any of the tunes. Renntech and Weistec numbers are practically the same although there is a $600 price difference.

I have dealt with Weistec with my now sold E55 M113k, and they were awesome.

When I purchased the hand held for Renntech, Weistec was not offering the Cypher programmer. Keep in mind you have to purchase both the Cypher, and the tune with Weistec. It should in theory allow you to tune multiple cars, provided you pay Weistec for each tune.

Renntech price is with the hand held already included, but it is still more expensive though if you call them they can retune for you.

I went with Weistec because their tune with the handheld was a lot cheaper than Renntech.

I post here because I'm not sure if Sprint Booster does something else too that just makes throttle open faster. There are lots of writing about this is forums saying SB does only make throttle open faster but I'm kind of thinking there may be something else happening too.

I noticed this when I used the red setting at highest 9. The car became almost impossible to drive as it would spin the wheels with the lightest touch of the pedal. I use it on red 6 now and it is super sensitive but the car can be nicely driven. It also revs the engine much higher at gear changes than without the SB in use. With SB the car feels much stronger as it is very difficult to spin the wheels no matter how fast I floor the pedal if I turn the SB off.

Just wondering if someone has insight to what SB really does...?

Does the tune live up to your expectations?

I've been running an OEtuning stage 2 tune with downpipes on my e550 for a few years now(fyi if there's a difference in power between their stage 1 & 2 tunes, it's definitely not noticeable from the drivers seat). On the plus side, motor hasn't blown up lol... on the bad side, it's not as potent as some of the others available. I just looked at their site and noticed they've adjusted their power numbers compared to when I purchased the tune, which were clearly high at the time. It's quicker than stock but still not as fast as a same gen stock 63s. Did a couple highway pulls with a buddy who owned a bone stock cls 63s, 100-150kph we were head to head, 150-170 he started pulling away, and by 200+ he was walking me pretty hard. I know they have bigger turbos, more displacement, and better top end, but other guys I've spoken to with the weistec tune say they're faster than stock 63s. If I had to choose again, I'd probably go with the weistec or eurocharged tune...

Your profile says you are in Chicago- if this is still accurate, there is a new Eurocharged location that just opened in Chicago!
