The bevo app is a great tool. It will list all the motor oils that are MB Approved. You do need to know what fluid specification your Owner's Manual refers to.
It is easy to find both Castrol and Mobil 1 in MB Approved varieties in most common auto stores.

These engines like a thicker xW40 more than a thinner xW30 that ends up pudling all over the intake track on the way to plugging your cats with carbon.

oops, I'll edit my post, I meant 5W40, was my older benz that uses 10W40 or 15W40.
anyways, yeah, thats the 229.5 approved oil list, although many of those are european market oils not readily found here.
https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/223.2_en.html says which specs for what engines. what I'm having a little trouble locating is the oil weight for recommended temperature range chart for a M276.9xx ... I'll be sticking with 5W40 as thats what the standard mercedes 229.5 oil is (the special AMG version is 0w40).

"Mobil 1 0W-40 European Car Formula is approved against the following manufacturer specifications:", and amongst those listed is:
"Mercedes-Benz MB-Approved 229.3, MB-Approved 229.5"
I'm not sure how Castrol or the others word it, as I don't have a bottle on hand of these. But I suspect it is similar.
