2010 E350 Instrument Cluster out
I have read everything I can on this topic and even tried the ribbon fix. The instrument cluster in this car is different than the one with the ribbon. This cluster has the "hand" indicator for the fuel level and temp, not the led on other clusters.
I am at a loss. I had the cluster out and could not see any problems with it. All the fuses in the car are good. Everything checks out with continuity checks on the listed fuses. Any help? Do I just need to get a new cluster and have it programmed at the dealer? Let me know your thoughts. |
Do you have power and ground at the connector???

eeeew. I looked up the instrument cluster for a generic 212.056 (E350 with the M272 motor), and found a bajillion PNs, depending on option codes.... your VIN would narrow this down, a lot.

One afternoon I start the car ('11 E350), cluster is working, back out the driveway, look back and the cluster is totally dark... no backlighting, no gauges. Kept driving, as we had a few appointments (multiple engine starts).
Long story short, I charged the main battery and disconnected it for 10 minutes and everything worked fine afterwards. I was checking for powers, grounds, CAN resistance, codes all indicated lack of communication with cluster (A1). During all that the cluster was unplugged for long periods of time. A friend, whose also a MB tech, mentioned the battery "reset" and having good success. |
just for the heck of it, I'm going to delete all the PN's that have been superceded.
[second edit pass removed redundant language, just leaving PN's and replaces and codes]

[second edit pass removed redundant language, just leaving PN's and replaces and codes] That sure is a "cluster" of part numbers. I am taking it apart again to get the pn. Fun tonight. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...61a5b4e39e.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...4aadef4296.jpg holy crap, thats STILL 63 combinations of option codes and Instrument cluster part numbers (I do note some PN's are duplicated) |
so lets see... your VIN has instrument cluster A2129005004
Code: (M271/M272/M273/M276/M278)+954+461+-462+800; eg, any of those M27x engines, plus AVANTGARDE, plus Instrument with miles display and english lettering, NOT instrument with asian characters, + YoM 19/1 (I have no idea what this last code means) |
Tx
Thanks for the help. Going to get a new one.
I appreciate the help

note a new instrument cluster will need to a flashware update, AND I believe the rest of the car has to be coded for it. pretty sure only a dealer can do this.

Alternative to dealer have independent using Xentry (MB diagnostics) erase stored/retrieve new fault codes. If replacement needed there are plenty of used 2129005004 choices on ebay, not plug & play you will need Xentry to transfer data, see attachments.
YoM 19/1 = 2010 software |
