Explain of this sensor please.

Hi Everybody,

I have the following error code on my S212 E350 CGI (Apologies for the massive resolution...!) Both left and right sensors seem to be gone.

Anyway, i've been driving with these errors for a while now. I'm wondering what effect they have.

* Do the affect fuel consumption
* Would they contribute to an oil consumption issue (Doubtful, just checking)

What symptoms would one expect with these sensors not working?

Thanks a lot.

I'm sorry what do you mean by this?

Do you know what the sensor does?

Thanks

I believe what Plutoe is saying so eloquently is change out your O2 sensor before it takes out your catalytic converter, the O2 sensor helps set the lean/rich fuel mixture to your ECU.

Ok cool, I figured that part. But I could decipher the "all of the above" part.. I mean, does the O2 sensor affect oil consumption.

I think I am going to change, I mean the fuel consumption should pay for it anyway

I don't know if an O2 sensor could lean out the cylinder bank enough to create a high heat condition and with a zero weight oil could cause oil to get past the rings for burning, but I suppose that scenario could be possible. My older Benz's with high mileage do burn about a quart over 5-7k miles of high-speed freeway driving, but my 212's are low mileage and don't seem to burn oil at all {yet}

Ah right.. well my E350 CGI burns about 1/1.5 quart per 700 miles :O

And sitting in traffic or low speed driving for too long results in a lot of knock and white smoke leading to misfire -- when you floor it. I'm working on the theory that this valve stem seals though and I will be replacing them soon.
