Thank you Fliplegend. I am in Florida, and no need for winters but I have always had full-sized spare tires on my vehicles and I have not found a steel wheel properly sized. So, I would have to get an original (not necessarily new) alloy wheel to match the car (not needed but).

I've been warned that carwash facilities do not filter the salt out of the water they recycle through their systems, so you end up shooting salt water at the underside of your car. Does anyone have information as to the truth/falsehood of this claim?

regular particle filtration will not remove soluable salts, that requires significantly more expensive treatment, which I doubt carwashes have. desalination is actually quite difficult and very energy intensive.

there's yet another factor, not all wheels of a particular size have the same INSIDE diameter, so if you're fitting 17's on a E350 4matic, for instance, there's very little clearance with the Mercedes 17" wheels, and its quite possible another brand would not clear. I ran into this in older Volvo land... 240s and 740/940s had the same bolt and hub patterns, but later 740/940s required 15" or larger wheels, and some of the optional 15's for 240s would not clear the brakes or ball joint even though they were the right width and offset.

True, thats why 5 micron particle filter is first then an activated carbon filter is used for suspended solids like sodium. seems to work fine is the RO and UF systems my firm designs for Coke and Pepsi, AB and Miller. We also use these same systems to make "Rocky Mountain Spring Water" out of the Shenandoah river in Elkton, Virginia

Yes, Reverse Osmosis removes salts like sodium chloride. Activated charcoal does not, as the sodium is an ion in full solution, Activated charcoal absorbs trace organics.

Might be a dumb question, but with all of the motors, sensors and other gadgets in this vehicle, how does it fare in winter? My car will be outside 24/7 in the cold Canadian winter, likely a shock to it after a previous 9 year existence of summer driving only, and garage stored.
Any precautions or things to keep an eye on, or features that should be disabled (ie. mirror auto folding)? Or dont worry about it and just drive?

You're from Ontario so just find a local KROWN or RUST CHECK dealer and have it undercoated .
